Watchmen Bluray edition confusion

I'm after confusing myself and it's doing my head in. I ran in town, as giddy as a school girl, and picked up Watchmen on Bluray. Now, I was under the impression that it was the directors cut and was hoping someone can set me straight.

The copy itself says Special Edition on it, but doesn't have Directors Cut on it. So I checked the net to see if I've gone wrong and different sites tell me different things. One site has a bluray cover with Directors Cut on it, but the contents is the same as I have and the running time is 162mins (the same as I have), but there's other sites that say the run time of the directors cut is about 187mins.

I know there'll be another cut out at christmas that has the Black Freighter but into it, so is this the 187min cut?

I'm having a bad day and so getting the wrong copy of this would be inline with everything else. Should I just give up and kill myself now?

The Directors Cut is being released in America and we are gettting the theatrical cut. The Ameican Blu Ray is region free but may I recommmend that you save your money till the super duper soecial edition directors uncut extended edition is out in November.

Thanks guys. Yeah I thought about sending away for the DC, but it's not that long a wait for the full version. I'll just play the theatrical cut in slow motion so it lasts longer.

I got the US edition in the post today as it was released there on the 21st July. It is 186 mins long and has the scenes that were missing from the version we got in the cinema and is menat to make for a much better film.

Am not sure if the Black Freighter segments are on my one, but I know the Hollis Mason scene (graphic novel fans know what scene) is in this version. Will let you know once I watch it if the Freighter scenes are on it too.

The US edition is not being released over here and what you got is the cinema version.

Just checked what is on my version, no Black Freighter bits here, a check online says the version out in November is a five disk set, with the Black Freighter bits in place.

I quite love my edition though as it came in a cool package inside Nite Owl's ship.

The Directors cut DVDs tend to come out a few months after the cinema version as a rule of thumb Iv found.

Yeah, but this time they simply decided to screw over Europe. :D

Let's be fair though, Zack Snyder has repeatedly said that people should wait the few months till he releases his actual Directors Cut of it. It hasn't been kept on the down low unlike the Zodiac directors cut which many people found out about when they found the trailer on their retail version of Zodiac.

I was saying that I thought the bluray release was the same as the US directors cut release (and the bitch in HMV said it was too, so that what I get for trusting them, I suppose!). I didn't expect them to just release one version over here, then they release both versions in the states.

Bring it back, tell them that you were told it was the extended edition and it turned out to be the boy standard theatrical cut. HMV are generally fantastic for returning stuff, even if you don't have a receipt they will take it back.

Not to derial the thread, but for those with the directors cut, Are the extra scenes good? (ie: is it worth watching the DC?)

I was thinking about that, but I think I'll watch it first, then bring it back. That's how I fight The Man! :P

watched it late last night, it is well worth it. I saw it in the cinema and the extra scenes make for a much more rounded film.

There is a lot more development, and the Hollis Mason scene is really really good, and the Nite Owl scene that follows it is excellent.

There are some chatty bits and some fight scenes that were not in the theatrical cut that really make the film work, and it starts to feel a lot more like the graphic novel.
