Fat Loss Advice (in trouble need help)

I am only starting out and am terribly unhealthy, living a very sedate (in front of computer job) and couch lifestyle. Male, late 20s, 5' 8", 101KG, BMI approx (33.5)!! My grandfather was diabetic (type 2), and died from a heart attack recently, so I am determined to do something about this. I carry most of my weight around my stomach to make matters worse.

I have cut out eating crap, and have started doing about 35mins cardio every day without fail (Wii Fit, primarily Aerobic Boxing & Jogging). E.g. I have lost 2.2KG in the last 10 days. I understand the basic formula of using up more carbs than I am taking in to maintain healthy weight loss. My problem in the past was exercise, so I'm determined to keep up the 30 mins cardio. After 30mins I would be absolutely soaked, so I am fairly working myself and getting the heart pumping. I have free weights (15KG x 2), which I used doing bicept curls before, but I ended up injuring myself making it very difficult to continue, also I have been reading that cardio is much better for fat loss right now, yet I read before that for guys resistence training and building muscle is crucial for fat loss also. So I'm confused.

My diet is along the following lines...

Breakfast: 1 thin slice of wholemeal bread, fried egg (2 x 1 cal oil spray on pan), tea with spash of low fat milk. Cereal Bar.

Snack: Apple + Bottle of Oasis

Lunch: Sandwich (2 thin slices of wholemeal bread), scrap of butter, ham, spinach. Water.

    Dinner:
    Tuna, Pasta (30g), vegetables, Water.

Snack: Tea with low fat milk, maybe a weight watchers bar if we have any

That's it!, I know with the bread and pasta there is quite a lot of carbs, but I try to keep them in low measures. I am a big fan of making homemade vegetable soups with plenty of fresh vegetables and herbs. So far my efforts seem to be working, but I would just like to know with regards both my diet and excercise am I on the right path (for now).

I am currently doing my exercise just after breakfast in the morning before shower. Is this the best time of day to do this or does it not matter?

Also I heard that drinking grapefruit juice in the morning helps get the metabolism moving. Any feedback?

Thank you very much for your help. My health is at risk from being overweight for most of my life and with the recent loss in my family it has really opened my eyes to how I need to cop on and sort myself out.

    Read the stickies on Nutrition.

Ditch the cereal bars. Eat more eggs. Nothing of use in the bar loads of use in the egg though.:D

Ditch the Oasis, tis full of empty useless sugar. Drink more water.
    Eat nuts for snacks.
Eat more veg and less pasta/spuds/bread.

    Read the stickies on nutrition.
    Forget about BMI.

    Read other stickies.

On the exercise thing it depends on how sedentary & over weight you are.
Get active, walk places and do cardio for a start.

first off, cut your carbs - and up your protein. use carbs as fuel, if you are going for a run have a sandwich, if you are lifting weigths eat carbs before and after.

2 15kg dumbells wont get you very far. But you could learn to do the following with them

    Squat,
    Straight leg dead lit.
    Rows
    military press
    Bench

Problem is, weight training needs you to improve constantly. would you consider joining a gym?

Also to echo d'oracle said about cardio, if you are overweight and just start running, chances are you can hurt yourself.
If you do go the cardio route, follow a programme to get up to a running speed, otherwise you risk injury.
