Ok have seen some of Italy in the past, Perugia, Pavia, Milan breifly.

Where are the best cities IYO? If they are in the north too that'd be grand.

Only Italian city I've been to is Venice but I thought it was really cool. Alot of cities claim to be unique but Venice definitely is. Was very cool just walking around the narrow back streets and over all the bridges and by the canels. Expensive place to stay tho.

Only been to 2 Rome and Naples.

Dunno what your looking for but Rome is so unique. Never seen anything like it and definitely a place to visit. U can walk around old rome and although it is a tourist hotspot there is a good reason for it.

Avoid Naples like the swine flu (Unless u going to pompeii and need to pass through it)
Its filthy and has some really run down neighbourhoods. Not a place I would go back to personally

I highly recommend Florence. I stayed there for 5 nights in January of 2007 and it was a fantastic stay. I think I visited almost every single museum there. Obviously it helps if you're interested in the Renaissance and the Medici family etc but it's a really beautiful place and I would say it's worth it to go just to climb to the top of the cathedral Santa Maria del Fiore. Venice is definitely a great place to if you visit off season like I did. Verona is very pretty too but I only stayed there for a day.

I was in Italy summer 2006, one of my favourite holidays. We flew in to Rome and out of Venice and along the way hit Pompeii, Florence, Pisa, Sienna, Bologna, Milan, Verona and finally Venice

I would really recommend Florence and the Tuscan region. From there you can also go Pisa, Sienna and Luca (didn't get their ourselves but a friend recommends it). They are all a short journey away by train. I would definitely go back to Tuscany.

You can't go wrong with Rome, plenty to see and do and from there we done a day trip to Pompeii, you can also climb Vesuvius if you feel up to the challenge.

Milan may not be to everyones taste, it was quite different from the traditional cities but I got to see the San Siro.

We had got a lot of negative reports on Venice but I would recommend it, though I did find it a little expensive compared to the other cities.

We travelled in August so tempratures were hitting the 90's so if your not a fan of heat maybe avoid that time of year.

I remember Milan. didn't think it was amazing but it was nice enough. San Siro is cool though.

I am italian (from a town near Turin). I think that Milan it is ugly. If you have time for a short trip in Piedmont Orta San Giulio it is lovely (but tiny) and the Lago Maggiore too. Turin it is a big city full of museums, well-travelled but rich of art. I advice you to visit Liguria that has a rich set of delicious villages and beaches. Besides Sicily it is fantastic. Don't think about the common bad idea about that region. The sea it is really nice and town and fisherman's villages are quaint. At the end Sardinia is gorgeous!!!!

    rome
    florence
    milan
    venice

they would be my top 4 in order, milan has lots of things to do and you are only 45 mins or so by train from wonderful lake como. nothing much to see in pisa outside the tower i thought

the amalfi coast south of naples is fantastic

    Lucca and Siena

Two smaller cities with a really nice atmosphere and beautiful surrounding countryside.

Turin is fantastic, cultural and friendly.

Genoa is great, narrow alleyways, great coastline.

I agree with you! Siena is amazing. In many towns in Tuscany there is a nice and a signal atmosphere. In Umbria too.
