    Hi Ladies

I am wondering how you ladies manage to keep your celluite under control. Recently mine has got really bad and its at the point now that I am dreading going on holiday in a few weeks as I know it will get me down.

Can you give me any tips or advise on how to beat the dreaded "C".

What creams have you used and would reccomend/ not recommend ?

OK I'm a bloke so... but in my experience the women I've known that had it or didn't have it, did have some pattern to it. Skinny or fat didn't seem to make that much difference. The skinny women had obviously less flesh, so I suppose there was less cellulite to see full stop.

Diet and exercise(and dumb luck) seemed to be the thing. The ones that had the least were healthy diet types. Not big drinkers and smokers etc. exercise wise, it seemed to be the ones who did more resistance type exercises that had the least by far. Weight lifting gym types rather than runners kinda thing. One of the women I've known with the most obvious cellulite was a distance runner built like a stripped down racing snake. Maybe it's because resistance training is going to boost testosterone a little more and as men don't get it(though some do I gather), maybe that's why? Fitness experts on here will have much better advice though.

Another thing I noticed was women I've known who tended to be sun worshipper types and had tans seemed to have less of it. Now maybe that's just because it's less obvious on tanned skin or vitamin D is involved or it was just the individual women involved.

I understood the creams were a bit of a waste of money, but that's only what I've been told of course.

I would say this though, men see it as an issue far far less than women seem to.

Rejoice in the awareness of feeling stupid, for that’s how you end up learning new things. If you’re not aware you’re stupid, you probably are.

Dry body brushing, a healthy diet and exercise regime.

Creams = Waste of time & money. If there is any effect, it will be temporary.

Healthy diet and exercise (as Wibbs said, resistance training so squats, lunges etc).

    Edit: Important points to consider!!
    - the vast, vast majority of women have cellulite - I've heard the figure 98% before. Therefore, by having cellulite, you are a normal human being (congratulations).
    - even people you think don't have cellulite, probably do: it's just been airbrushed out of the picture
    - your cellulite probably looks worse to you than anyone else
    - if you're worried about what the opposite sex think, don't. Every day, millions of men fall in love with women who have cellulite :)

Thanks for your tips and advice.

Excercise ways am not too bad, I go walking 3 nights a week usually 2-3 miles each evening, however that is it. At work Im sitting at computer all day so I am quite afraid i'll stiffen up hence the motivation to walk.

I have not tried the dry brushing, and i could improve my diet, drink more water etc. I think the main reason I am so worried is because its the first time ive ever been attached by the dreaded "c".

Hi Aine5, to be honest, walking is good for improving the health of your heart but it isn't really going to get you fit or lower your body fat (unless you are doing some serious power-walking). It's important for you to get your heart-rate up while you're doing cardio, either by doing 30mins+ of Low Intensity Training (LIT) or even better, imo, some High Intensity Interval Training (HIIT). This last one involves doing some sort of sprints intervals, either outside, or on a cardio machine in the gym, or even in the pool. However, if you're not fit, you'll need to work your way up (ditto for running).

I cannot stress the importance of doing resistance training. The cardio and diet will reduce your body fat but you also want some muscle underneath so you look 'toned'. And of course, resistance training itself burns calories AND the more muscle you have on you, the higher your metabolism!

Not to sound shallow, but I'm terrified of cellulite.

I can handle snakes, spiders, any sort of creepie-crawlies, but not that! :pac:

    I work very hard, trying to ensure I never get it! I know someday, my body will give in but for now, here are the things I swear by;

    - As healthy a diet as possible; Try to eat as much fruit and vegetables as you can! Aim to get your five a day.

    - Drink plenty of water to keep yourself hydrated. Most neglected and underrated beauty tip of all time!

    - Body brushing. Firm, circular motions.

    - Exfoliating.

    - Trampolines. Fun, and SERIOUSLY good for you. I used to go on mine for an hour a day, listening to my iPod. Firms you right up! Mini ones are very cheap as well!

    - Yoga. I did this during college term. Found it very useful for toning and sculpting my body.

    - Exercise balls. Have one of these, use it while watching videos online. Find it helps to keep me in shape and helps keep my legs toned and trim.

    - Walking. I walk all the time. Anything from 2-6 miles a day! I walk at a fast pace, so I am getting a work-out and my legs are being made work! I find it's better than running, as apparently, running causes the elasticity in your leg muscles to loosen, as it's causing constant friction.

    - Simple exercises. Any leg exercises, to keep 'em firm and toned.

    - Swimming. Another great one for keeping your body tight.

No problem! Best of luck with it!

At the end of the day, I just live by the philosophy that your body is yours, respect it and cherish it - something like that ;)

If you're good to yourself, then your body will be all the better for it! In saying that, it's important to enjoy life and give yourself a bit of a break too, sometimes :)

    Try and see exercise as a bit of fun, rather than a boring, painful chore! Makes it more fun! If you're finding it hard;

    - mp3 players seriously help. I find the tackiest, cheesiest pop and 80's music make for great exercising songs! ;)

    - get friends involved. I did yoga with a girl in my class and we motivated each other to go. Always easier when you have someone to help you and encourage you!

I hear something about if your skin is soft and sensitive, you are more prone to it. Thats why it's not as obvious on those with darker skin. Don't know if it's bunkum though.
