have done alot of touring in past around Europe. bike is now beyond help! want to get new tour bike and have approx €1000 to spend. any suggestions as what to get?

I think first thing you have to ask is what type of touring- do you tend to pack light or do you carry the kitchen sink... Then consider is the bike going to be used for anything else, e.g. is it going to be used unladen. If it is going to get unladen use, bike weight becomes a worthwhile criteria to consider... In this scenario if you tour light possibly an audax bike would be a good choice.
