Airsoft outside of Ireland

Is there much difference in airsoft when your not restricted to 1 joule? Anyone ever use any airsoft guns above the limit? In Poland your allowed guns up to 17 joules!!

    Are we missing out?

a lot of people think having a limit of above 1J magicly gives you great range and accuracy, this isnt the case. ive played against guns abroad that were 150 or more fps hotter than ours and yet mine was still better, quality over quanity and all that.

My view on it is: If you can't hit your targets with a 1 joule gun then that points to a lack of skill, not a lack of FPS. So you're not going to be assured of hitting them with a more powerful gun.
My favourite 2 guns shoot at 240 & 260fps and I have no problems. If we're all ( supposedly ) playing on a level playing field ( 1 joule or less ) then how can we be missing out if we're all evenly restricted?
I've played many games in Britain and been to Berget twice. Whilst I was outranged a lot, It was a lot less often I was outplayed.
And bear in mind places with higher limits often have different safety distances depending on the power of gun you're using.

In one way it would be nice to have a 2J M60 or a 5J M82, but bar that 1J is fine.

Extra joules in combination with our acquired Irish skills to make the most of range and accuracy due to our 1 joule limit could result in some great aegs and sniper rifles for foreign games.

I know i'd bring a spring abroad with me to pop in to see how much of a difference it would make combined with a good set up and some .25s or higher maybe.

1J was fine, even in berget where people were wandering around with 450fps etc.

There comes a point where it becomes pretty useless to have any more muzzle power. tbh it's more about barrel length, bore and hopup quality in terms of range and accuracy.

Well I have some nice aul aftermarket super fancy parts that do a great job, wouldn't mind seeing what they could do at a higher power in another country with a bit of tuning.

But, won't get that opportunity for a while.

I've no played in Sweden, UK and puerto rico where limits were over 1 joule.

If you just increase a stock rifles fps, you dont gain much, however combine the fps increase with your nomal tightbores and the liks, you do get a whopper increase.

I had a nosey at some rifles from Sweden and the 450fps did make a huge difference in fairness, and snipers at 500 fps, well that was a big increase...

What was that guy using that sniped you through a window in the thick fog last year, that was some shot.

He was using an obscure bolt action rifle firing 550fps, had a nosey at it, he approached me at one point in the safe zone told me it was him and I was like " how the **** did you do that" had a few mess shots with it and it was something fierce.

When I went to berget I had a 500fps SL9 and tbh in that area you wouldnt really need to go over a joule because of the minimum safety distance. I couldnt engage a target within something like 20 meters so the only use it would have been is on the raod block we had setup before the nato base. I had much more fun when I borrow KDs m4.

I'd much rather a tricked out ( tight bore barrel , decent hop etc) Marui at 280 fps than a big f**k off 550 fps clone with bog standard parts any day.

We've a guy plays in cork with a Star SLR and the range he's getting out of it is cruel (psg1 tight bore , hop up done).Easily outranges any sniper.the thing still chronos at 305 - 310 fps.

I often daydream of a competition not for fps , but for range. It'd really test the talented Aeg-modders ( is that a word ?) amongst us. how much range can you get while staying under 1 joule?

    Apologies for wandering off topic.

Totally agree i have been messin around with different springs to get my fps on the 300-328 mark. Every spring i put in was shooting over and i gave up. Now use a one joule spring shooting around 250-280 dose me fine, hop ups and the like i think are more important.

The rifles I brought to berget all had tightbore barells and guarder hops.

With those two easy upgrades, cheap upgrades, you are easily going to outrange most things on the irish field.

The MAC boys can testify to the range on my Masada.

I'd say that my rifles that have tighbores and guarder hops, the range I get easily equates to maybe a standard 400fps rifle if not more.

The guys at Berget who had upgraded rifles to 400-450 fps, had no other upgrades bar spring, and my rifles outranged them comfortably.

FPS, under a certain threshold, in my opinion is just bettering time from muzzle to target, not range etc.

Your barell and hop up rubber/unit are going to have to get changed to really increase your range and accuracy. 0- rare am I ever on the field where I cannot hit someone thats coming close to me, usually there BB's drop off as I'm hitting them in the chest.

Richie and Dave can also testiment to a good 1j rifle, as in PR3 we were easily hitting a window from a good distance away, as the opposing player was dropping short, he actually asked marshals to chrono the lads because he felt they were firing over the limit, yet the marshall laughed when he saw the chrono read 260-280 fps (they chronoed with hop on)

What types of hop-up/barrel do you recommend Doc?

I heard the Guarder hop-ups are supposed to be good?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 23,140 ✭✭✭✭TheDoc

    Guarder hops are tremendous.

I use madbull 6.03 barells, usually m16 barells in m4 setups, for that extra barell length....

Because I have a small penis.....

Yeah €25-€30 euro for a barell , un comprahendable how everyone doesnt have them.

I use the guarder silicone hopup, excellent results :)

guarder silicone hops alone will give you an extra 15 - 20 feet of range. I'm slowly collecting a guarder hop for every AEG I own, would love to see what a tightbore barrel would do with some of them.

give it a go you will be surprised, a bucking and tighbore are the easiest and most effective upgrades you can do, your effective range and bb on target will jump i would say :)
