    Hi!

Im helping a friend locate her birth mother. What we know is that she was from Kildare but was in boarding school when my friend was born in 1962. Id like to try searching the registers of some of the nearby boarding schools.

So basically what id like to find out is what boarding schold were in the area and surrounding counties about this time? she was from a wealthy family if this makes any difference?

    thanks in advance

Clongowes in Clane, AFAIK was a boarding school. Not sure of any other ones though, sorry! And was it definitely a boarding school she was in? could it have been a laundry?

I think Clongowes and Newbridge would have been boys only...Clongowes still is and Newbridge only started letting (day) girls in in the 90s.

A quick search got this, hope it helps!

Do you know what part of Kildare. St Wolstans HFC in Celbridge was a girls boarding school from 1957 until the early 80s... was then located on the Dublin Road not where it currently is

Kilashee Hotel in Naas was a boarding school at one stage - not sure if it was primary or secondary though.
I know that they still have some of their records on display with other pieces of memorabilia.

Newbridge and Clongowes were both boys boarding schools (the first girls were accepted into Newbridge as day students in 1984).

Girls could board in Cross & Passion in Kilcullen and in Castledermot.

The Setanta House Hotel in Celbridge was a girls boarding school until 1972, it was known as the Collegiate school, it was quite a large school at the time so it might be worth investigating.
If this is the school (or another school) then www.friendsreunited.co.uk have ten members who were students in this school who might be able to help.

St Marys Boarding School in Castledermot run by the Poor Servants of Mercy

As a result of an amalgamation between the Vocational School, Castledermot and St. Mary's Secondary School. the school is now called Colaiste Lorcain.

The boarding for girls has now ceased.

There was a boarding School in Kildare called Our Lady's Bower Killashee, it was a mile outside naas, it used to be boys only and then it became boys and girls, It did close down a good few years ago and now it is a Hotel called Killashee House Hotel, hope this helps

Mount Sackville in Chapelizod is also probably worth a look as it was a private girls boarding school that loads of girls from Kildare still go to today
