Hoping this is the right forum, apologies if not!

I have searched 5 or 6 different chemists for Quinoderm 5 cream but can only find the standard Quinoderm cream (i.e. the 10% version) everywhere. Does anyone know a chemist that stocks the "5" version?

    Thanks a mill

    Hmmm,

Shouldn't have thought it would be a problem, unless the product has been discontinued, and I don't think it has. I'll check tomorrow at work.

Did any of the pharmacies you visited offer/attempt to order it for you?

If it does turn out to have been discontinued, then PanOxyl 5 has the same active ingredient (Benzoyl peroxide).

Check back tomorrow, and I'll have some kind of answer for you.

    L-M.

Thanks a million. I asked in four of the pharmacies (it was in the Dun Laoghaire area) and they didn't offer to order it, they just said they only do the standard one :( Panoxyl is a little harsher I find so I'd stick with the quinoderm 5 if it were possible.

    Thanks again :)

More info tomorrow, but in the meantime:

Quinoderm 10 and PanOxyl 10 should be just as harsh as each other, and Quinoderm 5 and PanOxyl 5 should be just as mild as each other. The harshness comes from the active ingredient Benzoyl Peroxide, and the differences in the excipients (inactive ingredients) shouldn't have any bearing on it.

Quinoderm 5 has not been discontinued, and is available. It comes in a 50g tube.

I rang Uniphar (one of the 3 pharmaceutical wholesalers in Ireland) and they have it on the shelf. I would imagine that the other two do too, but I didn't check.

Try your local pharmacy again, and ask them to order it for you. If you ask in the morning, they should have it that afternoon.

If you try your local independant pharmacy, they are more likely to be Uniphar customers. The chain pharmacies tend to use the other guys. (Not a hard and fast rule, but a rule of thumb).

You should expect to pay in the region of €6.50.

locum-motion, thank you *so* much for your help. I will ask if they can order it for me so. i really do appreciate it, you have saved my trying to locate it online. I just wish one of the pharmacies had offered to order it in the first place and it would have saved you the trouble!

I just find the panoxyl a little more drying (it's a gel texture rather than a cream so maybe that has some bearing??) on my skin, I know the active ingredients are the same, so it's probably all in my head lol!

    Thanks again :)

Any pharmacy worth its salt and with properly trained staff should have offered at the outset. I'm surprised that none of the four did. You must have been very unlucky in the four you tried.
