Hey lads, confused as to this

1st instructor told me 4 and 8 o clock, and to feed the wheel .

Other instructor told me 2 and 10 o clock.

Can someone clarify the correct positioning of the hands and the reasons as to why it is so ?

    Thanks :)

10 and 2 defo , never heard of 8 and 4. i believe its and 10 and 2 for a reason its a lot easier turn the wheel from the top the then rather then the bottom ...

definately 10 and 2, but now some instructers might say to to hold 3 and 9 because of airbag position, but i passed mine on 10 and 2.
    good luck.

Find another instructor, that is so basic a mistake as to cast doubt on his general competence. At 4 and 8 your elbows are two close too your abdomen to allow quick reaction / change of direction in an emergency.

Since driver air-bags became pretty much standard the recommended hand position is now closer to 9 and 3. The simple reason is, if the airbag does deploy you want space between your arms for it to inflate. If your hands are too high up on either side of the wheel there is a possibility that the airbag with hit your forearms first - this has 2 potential consequences : a) it can injure your arms and more importantly b) it reduces its cushioning effect on your face, head and upper body.

The most important point about hand position on the steering wheel is that you have full control at all times. Dont be afraid to move your hands around the wheel but at least one hand must be firmly holding the wheel at all times.
