    Hey, I was hoping someone would know a Chinese manufacturer of cargo bikes, similar to this one;

    bakfiets3.jpg

    I know of a shop in Copenhagen that sells these types of bikes imported from China, but I'm finding it hard to source both the name/website of the shop and the name of the Chinese manufacturer.

    Any help much appreciated

    These ones aren't made in Christiania, although they look similar. The ones made in Christiania cost around €2000 as far as I know, but the other shop in Copenhagen sells the Chinese produced ones for around €500.

    I have a Christiania and I love it.

    Buyer Beware
    I think this may be company you're looking for:

    +1 on DualFrontDiscs' caution. I have a bakfiets and although it's heavy it's also absolutely bombproof. I had a look over the Portland forum and although most of the negative feedback comes from Workcycles in Amsterdam (who retail bakfiets and therefore are hardly disinterested), I still think it's worth taking seriously. The stresses placed on the frame and box when you're carrying 50 kilos plus your own weight are substantial and I can't imagine there being much room to skimp.

    Let me stress that this isn't a comment on Chinese bike manufacturing in general: most of the posters here are probably riding Taiwanese or Chinese manfactured bikes (as am I - my Trek road bike) but this knock-off looks potentially dangerous.

    Thanks for the links. How would I go about finding the name of the actual manufacturer of these bikes? The reason I'm asking is that I'm thinking of setting up a shop selling these in Berlin.

    The quality of these bikes is not comparable to the proper bakfiets of course, but I think there are enough people who would like to buy one for around €500, knowing obviously that it's not as good as the €2,000 ones. €2,000 is a lot to pay for a bike!

    As long I have a good returns/repair policy it would still be fair on the customer who can't afford to buy a 2k bakfiet.

    I think you'd be surprised - as is evdienced by these forums, plenty of people think that 250 euro is too much to pay for a bike.

    In any case, with these bikes, I think having a good returns/repair policy would eat in to any margins you would have. Some of the damage on display in those photos shows they used the most rubbish parts possible where it is not a case of if but when they break.

    as far as I know, the margins can be high with these bikes which would definitely give a bit of room to be customer friendly and replace parts if needs be. From what I've heard, this place in Copenhagen ends up replacing a lot of bikes/parts but the business still does very well.

    For an Asian supplier/manufacturer of Cargo Bikes (or anything for that matter) try www.alibaba.com
