The 24/7 fan on problem with Sky+ box !

    Hi.

Some time ago I bought a 250GB disk for my Pace PVR2 Sky+ box after the original disk failed. The fan has been on 24/7 ever since. From googling I have learned that this often happens.

Up to now I have lived with this but it now is getting more and more annoying.

Does anyone have suggestions about how to cure this. I have seen this product

    http://skyplusfancontroller.com/default.aspx

I wonder does anyone know if this solution or if there is a cheaper solution?

Alternatively, if I just disconnected the fan, how would I know if the box started to overheat? Would it just switch off or reboot? If it did this I would reconnect the fan but it may work without fan.

    Any suggestions appreciated.

This is a common enought problem when upgrading the hd...and because the original fan is made of plastic and quite flimsy it is worth upgrading to a better one such as the silenx

    http://www.skyuser.co.uk/tutorials/pace_3100_sky_box_how_to_upgrade_the_hdd.html

There are a few on ebay but off top of my head Im not sure of the measurements of the one installed in a skyplus box...

I upgraded my HDD around 3 years ago and immediately disconnected the annoying digibox fan and have had no overheating problems.

Although, I have to be honest and say I'm not sure if the occasional picture and/or menu freezes I encounter that require a reboot (or also some infrequent recording/playback problems) are due to the crappy Sky software or perhaps my box is overheating.....?

It will do what any other computer without a fan would do. Disconnect the fan in your computer and sit back to see.

(This is not a serious suggestion as the damage could be permanent.)
