As far as i know you will only get the grant if you passed the year the last time you were in college?

You can apply through your local county or city council as well as the vec. a lot of paperwork to go with it and no just because you got it before does not automatically qualify you need to apply each year. If you don`t pass exams or repeat ones you do not qualify

when does anyone know in the name of god will the income limits for third level grants be issued by the department of education? does anyone have any information? the city councils and vecs say they don't know, I've emailed the dept of education and asked them and received a reply along the lines of "to get a grant you must contact your local authority and fill in an application form along with the relevant documents." idiots. I've seen the limits for last year on www.studentfinance.ie but these are obviously subject to change. once again, ff ****s over the most vulnerable in society.

Just a question, doesn't need a new thread but are the grants from the VEC and your county council the same grant? Are they two completely different schemes and so should you apply for both or is it that you can just apply for the same thing in two different places?

They should be out very soon. I was at a talk yesterday for mature students and neither the lady from studentfinances.ie or the lady from citizens information bureau had an idea when they'd be published. Everyone's waiting!!

No, you can only apply for one.

There are 4 grant schemes depending on what type of course you are applying for. Afaik at the moment the TLT, PLC and VEC schemes are administered by the local VECs, while the HEG scheme is administered by the councils. It's all basically the same thing though and is coming from the same place - the department of education. Eventually this will all be streamlined into a single scheme which will be administered by the VECs.

I got the grant the first 2 years in collage but was out on work experience for all of third year. I obtained my ordinary degree.

I then changed collage same course tho and I am now going into my final fifth year trying to get an honours degree.

I didnt get the grant last year due to us not having the accounts done for the family farm in time to apply. ...even though my sister got it because she just signed some no change in circumstances form.

is there anything I can do toa void this happening again?

A girl was saying I could sent in a letter stating "accounts to be forwarded" does that work?

there is hardly backpayments . :o Help appreciated
