Hey, I have a Peavey 6505 and am looking to get a good cab to go with it.

I'm looking for a Marshall 1960a or 1960av secondhand at the moment but am having no real luck.

Could anyone recommend any other cabs that go well with a 6505? Thanks.

Red Enemy use these with 6505s.
They sound very similar to the mesa rectifier cabs and for about half the price.
Only ever heard good things about them.

I recently picked up the fr212 (2x12 version) of that cab.. Great sound very happy with it, but just a word of warning, the tolex covering is very thin on the framus cabs, so if this is going to be gigged lots I would expect it to look a lot more worn quicker than other cabs.. Can't fault the sound or price though :)

Yeah, I've heard that before alright.
At the end of the day though, the covering doesn't affect the sound. :)

Iv played and recorded a good few cabs and my fav is the mesa os 4x12

Well if he's looking at 1960a and av cabs we can only presume his price range is around €400-€600 mark.
If he's using a 6505 he's obviously playing metal of some sort.
The mesa cabs are ideal and sound great slaved with the head in question but judging by what he's looking at they're also way out of budget.

I could be wrong of course but that's my guess. :)

Absolutely true..:) And they do sound great..

I just found it wierd, that while they use the more expensive plywood (whereas others have gone with cheaper mdf - Marshall included i think), they really seem to have gone cheap with the thin tolex. Maybe it's not even cheaper, just a different style..

Either way, +1 on the Framus suggestion.. Excellent cab and the Vintage 30's sound great. :)

    TT Cabs from tube-town.de
    http://www.tube-town.net/ttstore/product_info.php/info/p1812_TTC-4-12--REX.html

I got a 2x12 for a custom built HiWatt from them a while ago and I can't speak highly enough of the build quality. Load her up with the speakers of your choice and you'll get much better value for money than buying new.

Might be a little more expensive than a second hand Marshall cab, but it'll be better than one too.

Hmmm..they'll do a 2x12 with V30s in silver tolex to match my Jubilee for about €410 shipped. A Marshall 1936 with V30s is about €450...no brainer in my case methinks.

    How fast are they?

I got my empty 2 X 12 in three weeks. Thos guys are spot on and the built quality was top notch.
They've two version of the closed back 2 X 12.
For the 6505 I go for the deeper one (more internal volume = more low end) loaded with V30s or maybe a V30 and a GK100.
It'll be in the price range and sound

Ay, the Tube Town cabs are the business. The REX series is probably what you should be looking at. Also, I don't know would I necessarily recommend getting a 4 x 12. A 2 x 12 should cover most of your needs. For gigging it is smaller (easier to transport), you can get it up off the ground easier (should you need to decouple it from the stage) and it should be plenty loud enough (unless you are playing really big venues). It will also make the soundmans job much easier (less volume coming off the stage, easier to balance with the pa).
