We have a 01 blue Transit that we use at the weekends for band/gigging work.
Last week a letter arrived from Dun Laoghaire council saying we were parked on a double yellow line back in june and that a ticket was issued, owing them €40.
Now having never been to Dun Laoghaire in years we did some investigating, and it turns out that there is a blue transit using our reg somewhere in the south Dublin area.
We now have to write to the superintendent of Dun Laoghaire Gardai to explain the situation and hope that we dont now get a load of unpaid toll notices and god knows what else.
Anyone else ever in the same situation??

Maybe you are using their reg without knowing it!
Obviously where the notice came to you, you are the registered owner but would be worth checking out you chassis number etc to make sure your van is what it says it is

Nope, investigating has proved we are ok!

Bring it to attention of gardai asap. They will take it & crush it I assume. This guy is obviously going around without tax, insurance or anything else. Could get you into an awful mess if he killed someone with it.

How did you find that out?

Yes or if he crashed into someone. He is not going to hang around. He knows whats he is doing. There are no records of him having such a van and typically the type of person who will drive around like this wont be too worried about drink driving or anything else. I wouldnt sleep at night if someone was going around in a copy of my car.

Isn't this up to the Gardai to sort out?

    Very serious as mentioned.

Get a letter from superintendant and keep it with you.

They have NPR gear now according to the papers they should be able to chase dowwn the other van.

    Quick update on this.
We wrote to the super at Dun Laoghaire explaining our situation and got a reply back the other day.
He said that whilst he acknowledges our situation and that it is under investigation, it doesn't however release us from our obligation to pay the fine.
So do we pay a fine for something we didn't do, or let it run its course and risk a court appearance??
Off to the solicitor this week i think.....

Have you witnesses to the van being in Drogheda on the day in question?
'twould solve the issue easier if you had.

Yep, it never left the drive way where it's parked on the day in question, and have witnesses if required.

You don't want to acknowledge that as truth because, deep down in places you don't talk about at the Green Party, you want me on that road, you need me on that road. We use words like freedom, enjoyment, sport and community. We use these words as the backbone of a life spent instilling those values in our families and loved ones. You use them as a punch line. I have neither the time nor the inclination to explain myself to a man who rises and sleeps under the tax revenue and the very freedom to spend it that I provide, and then questions the manner in which I provide it. I would rather you just said "thank you" and went on your way. Otherwise I suggest you pick up a bus pass and get the ********* ********* off the road”

    Hi OP,
I got a call from the gardai about 6 weeks ago to check that I still owned the yaris registered to me, which I do.

I was a bit suspious of the call so asked for a number to call him back on, which was my local station.
He then asked me where the car was -outside my office :)
He then told me they had impounded a car the same make model and colour as mine in Galway!
He asked me to call down to station with the car so he could check chasis.
The car was stopped for speeding and wasnt displaying tax etc.
Not sure if my story is any help to you, the garda did say that this type of thing is on the increase

Hi Cutie, Nah they didnt say if this type of thing is on the increase.
Ah we'll see our solicitor and see what he advises.
It's just a pain at this stage.

Received a letter yesterday from Super in Dun Laoghaire asking us to disregard any previous requests to pay the outstanding €40 as on-going investigations have proved us to be in the clear!!

Will ring them later and find out have they found the mystery transit, or are we to expect any more surprises in the post!

Thanks to all for your replies...

Steady on Mick! If the other van was involved in a fatal accident, it wouldn't take Sherlock Holmes to ascertain that the OP's van wasn't involved.
