Social Welfare Taxable?

    Just here trying to do a tax return and can not come to a conclusion with regards social welfare receipts is it 52 weeks taxable plus christmas bonus or just the straight 52 weeks.

    Your local social welfare office can give you the taxable amount of benefits received in a year. Just have to ring up with your PPS No.

    Thanks but that doesn't really apply to me as I'm trying to prepare a client's return and we are fed up waiting to hear replies from social welfare

    Yeah i know what you mean. Social welfare don't give info over the phone to agents only the individual.

    Depends on what type of welfare, some types are taxable some aren't, and others have a certain amount tax free each year

    I'm sure Revenue or Dept of SW websites would have a similar breakdown.

    Total is taxable....52 weeks plus Bonus.
    Also where social welfare is taxable, recipient is entitled to PAYE tax Credit.

    sure its only €20 tax difference give or take, for 1 additional payment, surely client wont mind?
