What are you looking to buy. There really isnt any value left up North unless you're looking for something really rare. Any link to what you are looking at?

well the car is rare enough down here, 02 Audi avant 1.9TDI Quattro sport. page two 2/3rds down

the website has no pictures of it so im waiting for the dealer to send me pics.

as for the value im going to go and try and avoid the HUGE VRT that would be due on the car as compared to its asking price of around €6000, by getting a NI friend who is working down here to buy it on my behalf and then after 6 months re-reg it down here, then after a year i "buy" it from him officially.

i dont mind waiting that long to actually own the car since i plan to own it for a long period of time 5yrs+. plus once its reged as an Irish car i can be insured for alot cheaper.

Your NI friend will have to prove residence in the North for the six months they own the car there, and will then have to prove that they are transferring residence to the South. If they're working here now then they won't be able to do the former. The VRO have seen every trick in the book many times over, you'll just end up waiting an extra six months for a car on which you'll still have to pay VRT. Basically, if you can't afford the car don't buy it.

Unless you've got every i dotted and every t crossed you can pretty much forget that stunt. They'll smell that coming a mile away and even if you can get it over the line they'll break your heart all the way. A qiuck search found this
http://cars.motornet.ie/usedcars/index.cfm?fuseaction=car&carID=200923193019870 and theres no doubt in my mind that this will come for 8 grand. Less mileage with a warranty and no chance of getting stung with the VRT nevermind the fact that the exchange rate wont leave you much change from this anyway.

Ok, points taken, i am running on a tight budget so im trying to cut corners here, there and everywhere.

i knew it was going to be a messy thing from the start but thats why i've been asking around before commiting to anything as sordid as this.

Ah well back to the drawing board.

    Thanks for a help
