JSA Arrears

    Hi,

I Just received my letter saying I am approved for the JSA today. I got all sign on date details etc with it.

The one thing that is concerning me is that they mentioned nothing about how I should collect the arrears as I submitted my application on March 10th 2009. I started receiving the Supplementary Welfare allowance from the CWO from 2th June, but there are 12 weeks of arrears due (March10th-May26th). Also on the letter I received it states "These means apply from: 10 March 2009".

This amounts to €2448. I presume they are not going to give it all to me at the post office tomorrow? Do they give you a cheque?

Any advice would be much appreciated.

You should receive a cheque in the post for the arrears. bear in mind that any payments from Supplimentary Welfare Allowance will be deducted from any arrears you are owed.

I assume you were receiving SWA as I cannot make out why you are only due €2400 for such a long period?

Unfortunately I cannot answer your question even though I am in a similar boat to you.

I would imagine that the PO is not in the business of handing over such sums at short notice, though PO's do hold '000's in cash on any given day.

It could be you get this weeks in cash plus a cheque.

Maybe ring the PO in question and ask them how they handle it.

the 2400 is the amount owed after the supplimentary welfare allowance has been deducted I would assume. 2448 sounds about right for 12 weeks waiting time. march-june.

    Thanks for the replies guys!

Im going to post office tomorrow to collect my first payment so I will find out then I guess. You see I went into the SW Office yesterday and told them I was waiting since March 10th and the girl said that the system said I was due to get my money today + today I got the letters.

She said go to the post office so I guess that's what I'll do. I just was thinking they are never going to give me all that out in cash - would be mad!

RE: "the 2400 is the amount owed after the supplimentary welfare allowance has been deducted I would assume. 2448 sounds about right for 12 weeks waiting time. march-june."

Yeah its 12weeks * €204. I got the swa first payment on about June 14th but they backdataed me to 02 June.

Its just a got a bit of a large credit card bill built up cos I expected the JSA would be processed much faster + wanted to avoid the CWO at all costs - stupid now in hindsight but there u go!!

Yep. Thats what I figured. 2448 is bang on for 12 weeks, give or take a few pence.

When I was made redundant it was a case of the company going into liquidation suddenly. so I had a whopper of a credit card bill when going to claim. I found these people to be of assistance with beating it down

Went into post office today and they had no arrears cheque for me. They said go to the Office and ask them to sort it out.

They did say the normal procedure is for the arrears to be paid through the post office.

Also - do you guys know what to do if you are not around to collect your money for one week. Im away next week so do I need to tell the people in the office?

    Thanks
