Alright guys. Wonder if anyone has any experience with the repeats?? are they similiar to the summer exams. In particular if anybody repeated 2e3 in engineering, any advice would be appreciated.
Also I know there are a few people out there on the boards who are in this course, do you think the lectures (particulary waldron) will make the repeat exam much harder.
I consider 50 people out of a year of 150 failing this subject to be a high failure rate. Can they really afford to make it hard??? Or maybe thats just me trying to make myself feel better:o

    Any advice much appreciated.

I've sat resits before. They may ever so slightly easier, or slightly more difficult but it's folly to try make these predictions. They're going to try make it very similar in difficulty to the original exam. You have a couple months to study for this one exam. How much study did you do for it in the annuals? How many past questions did you answer? What mark did you get? Now how much much study/past questions will you need to get a mark high enough above a pass, such that you can be confident enough not to fail? Now cloister yourself away from tv, computer games, internet, afternoon drinking etc. and do at least that amount of work. Start no later than a month before your resits. Anything closer and you're pushing it.

Well that sucks... I don't envy you. Was he let go midway through the academic year? Or since the annual exams? How would it have changed things?

Unfortunately it will unlikely prompt them to give you a free pass.

The only thing I'd suggest is perhaps going to the lecturer (they're still around during the summer) and asking for guidance for what to study, general tips on how to answer etc. Perhaps they can direct you to relevant tutorial questions to try.

After (and before) that it just comes down to you getting down and doing the work, anything else is just a distraction.

A vague post I made before which might be helpful: http://boards.ie/vbulletin/showpost.php?p=56394870&postcount=6

Unless things have changed you can still compensate somewhat in the repeats, depending on the course. But try to clear it easily yourself :)

I did the 2e3 repeat last year. Ya really gotta know ever single short question off! Ten try pic up what ever you can from the other long questions. If you dont know the exact code for something do that comment thingy //sudo code answer// and u'll get a few marks for it.

When i did it the paper was fairly similar to the original one, but i wouldnt bank on it being the same.

good luck with it! and just think Ya'll never have to cin or cout ever again when you get through it!

Hey I feel your pain Jiminho. I was one of the maths students but thankfully i scraped through this exam. His slides are all you will need. I ignored Waldrons part of the course aside from reviewing the short questions.

In short, its all on the webpages of the two lecturers. Best of luck to all taking this exam. The rest of the year in this module truly was a farce.

I just passed this exam, I was planning on skipping all of Waldron until the day before the exam when i looked at his slides and sample paper, his short questions were actually very easy after learning off his slides which are very short (robbed from some american college i think). I knew nothing from the other fella and just answered Waldrons long questions which again were just from the slides.

I'd suggest learning his stuff inside out, I'm very surprised I'm even saying this because I learned nothing in his lectures and did none of his labs, but those slides did the biz for me!!:o

    Hope that helps
