Strawberries-Getting a second crop?....

I got a load of strawberry plants that have finished fruiting from someone who did not want them any more. Do strawberry plants normally provide a second crop? I have a polytunnel, and I was wondering whether there is some way I can get a new crop from them by finishing them in the tunnel for around mid-autumn.
I heard something about covering them with black polythene(presumably to fool them into thinking that winter has arrived?) Could anyone shed a bit of light on this dark subject. I am hoping somebody can provide some fruitful answers...
