I just want to start by saying FU Quinn Direct.

    Let me try to explain.

For the past 4 years i have been insured with QD without any problem what so ever. For the last 3 of them 4 years i have been insured on a Subaru Impreza STI.

Now a month ago my policy was up and i decided not to renew has i was gonna try and sell the car and wouldnt be driving it. So a month pass's and not a single bite on it. So i think screw it il reinsure it and stick it back on the road.

So i ring QD and ask to renew my policy only to be told that they dont insure this type of car and i wont be able to renew my old policy. I mean wtf.

My question is, due to the fact they are dam hard to get insured on im stuck in a tight situation. Do i have any options on forcing QD into insuring me?

Insurance ombudsman with refusal letters from a few companies - but theres no guarantee it'll be Quinn. I believe they're obliged to renew, but from the sounds of things you let the policy lapse so its not a renewal but a new quote in their eyes.

I cant answer anything specifically about Quinn Direct as I've never been insured by them but I dont see why they would have to insure you as it sounds like you let the policy lapse?

In general though, I would fully recommend contacting a broker and have them arrange your insurance for you. While you may pay a slightly higher premium (to account for their commission), they will probably be able to use their leverage with various insurance companies to actually get you quoted.

Depending on your details (and I'm assuming you are young enough), it can be difficult to get insured on a car like that Subaru....

Well i got a quote from XS Direct for 1800 but i really want to stay away from them. Im just raging with QD. Had the car with them for 3 years ffs.

If you didn't want to renew your policy, should they be able to force you?

    What?

My point is they have insured me on that car for 3 years without any problems. Ive no points or claims or anything like that. So i dont understand how they can turn around and say they dont insure this type of car.

Because they've stopped insuring it to new customers and were only renewing yours cause they had to before, I presume.

In exactly the same way as you could turn around and say that you don't want to do business with them any more. It happens all the time, on both sides.

Why give out to Quinn? It was YOU who stopped your insurance relation with them:
    i decided not to renew

To state the obvious, they were making losses on the average person and car combination like yours and they had only been hanging on to your business from a continuity / courtesy point of view.

That is not necessarily true. Insurers usually charge the same price if you go through a broker and are happy to allow them deduct commission because the broker deals with more of the admin. It is when a broker charges a service charge on to of this, that the premium can become dearer, but not always

Its like companies saying they don't insure cars over 20 years old.

Chances are however that if you insure a car thats 17 years old and continue to renew the policy they'll keep insuring it, til its over 20 year old.

    Make sense?
