    Hi

Thinking of heading to the tournament next year. Have never been and am just starting to look into going now.

All I know is it's on in St.Andrews and tickets are easily purchased.

    Anyone any useful info?

    Thanks

just back from turnberry, great buz all weekend over there , followed watson from 1st tee til playoff, missed ferry home but was worth it. Can't wait for2010, was in st andrews 2005 and paid 40sterling in then. Got in as student in turnberry and i could pass as an OAP or lecturer , 25sterling for students.

Was looking at going myself, have never been to watch live golf so dont really know what to expect!

Thing is I will have the girlfriend with me, her mother is Scottish and we go to vist her relations every July but she has no interest in golf so question is, is there much there that would keep her interest?

She could spend her time in the merchandising tent, gets a bit boring after awhile though. If shes into getting hammered cheap drink is to be had. If theres a bit of sun the auld tan could be topped up. Apart from that if shes no interest in golf itll probably be torture. Expect lots of whos that, whats that and where did the ball go. Then again I could be wrong.

Already a lot of accommodation is sold out in an around St Andrews and many are quoting ridiculous prices. House for 8 people - £12k for instance.

There are a few options - like the caravan parks, student residences (though all they have left are the ones without bathrooms) or you could look at staying in Dundee - about 14 miles away!

Managed to secure my place for next year on Tuesday - house for £1000, deposit paid so happy days!

She would know who some of the famous golfers are, once she could have a few drinks for the day id say she'd enjoy it! Is there's bars all over the place or are they just around the clubhouse?

There were two main bars there this year anyway because the course was so spread out. The main one was near the 18th tee and the other was down around the 15th. Cant understand why alcohol is allowed in a place where you have to be completely silent for nearly the whole time you spend there but sure there ya go

Cause ya'd need a drink after all that hiking around i'd say

i'm just back from turnberry myself and a few of the lads. this has been our fifth open in a row since st andrews in 2005. in 2005 we pre booked our tickets online for the golf. there's no need as we have being paying in on the gate as students since. never asked a question just handed in the exact 25 pounds. some of our group are well into their thirties. never asked for id. of all the courses we've been st andrews would have been the worst for viewing but still an excellent experience. i'd def recommend the weekend.
