What you will recieve is a conviction, not a criminal conviction but still a conviction. It can be given in future court cases as previous convictions and generally must be included in job/visa applications.

Whether you take the fine or prison you'll still receive a conviction im afraid.

There is a bill to introduce a time limit to how long convictions appear on a record, but i do not think it was passed yet.

    Agree with your first part.

The bill was never passed into law and tbh I cant see it being done anytime soon.

Gard told me that if i wanted they would bring me to limerick prison but that i would not be kept any way as they don't have any room and that the fine is then gone and if that is the case i cant see any reason to pay also if the initial fine had been paid at the time of the offence would i still have got a record i don't understand how you get a record because you don't pay the initial fine but if it goes to court you do it is still the same offence no
