reclaiming vat on van

    i recently registered for vat and 10months prior i had bought a van and am wondering is there a way of claiming that vat from that van back ?:confused:

    Hi

    I don't think so :(

    When you register you are given a date of registration. You cannot claim VAT on purchase invoices before this registration date.

    You might ring up revenue and say you made a mistake with the dates and see if they will backdate the registration.

    The trouble is that you will have to then charge VAT on all your sales back to this date also. As you may not be able to go back to your customers to get them to cough up the extra VAt you will have to take the hit for this
