    Hi

I have a UPC digital video recorder box and it's almost full.

I want to move some stuff onto DVD discs and bought a Philips DVD recorder yesterday (DVDR3480).

The shop also had a Sony unit for a few quid more (RDR-GX380)

both seem to pretty much do the same thing.. the philips if anything supports a wider variety of formats it seems..

Did I make the right choice going for the Philips?

    Hi Justin,

How are you planning on transferring the recordings from the UPC box to the DVD recorder?
As far I know this is not possible - but if there is a way i`d love to know:-)

only way is to "play" them and record off the scart...

    that's pretty much it

I don't plan to do anything other than hook up a SCART cable as suggested in the UPC user's guide

I reckon there's not enough of a reason to pay the extra 30 quid so Philips it is

Make sure you're using the RGB output of the DVR and the RGB input of the DVD recorder (typically only one socket on either does this), otherwise there will be a significant loss in picture quality.

Let us know how you get on with the philips`.
I view my UPC box through the av channel on my sony DVR. That way it actually upscales the picture through the sony`s HDMI cable to my TV
