Downgrade charge?

Just reading the sticky above. But does no one else think that the Downgrade charge on UPC (or any PAY TV company) is a total robbery.

    Let me explain: -

    1. I was being lazy one Saturday and ordered Sky Movies
1.1. Lady told me that I would be charge for it on my next bill.
1.2. I asked can I cancel after a month, she told me I could
    1.3. I order 15mins later I have sky movies.
    2. I get the bill a few days before the month.
2.1. Bit shocked that it charged me for 3 months.
2.2. Quickly cancelled the upgrade and got them to credit me on my next bill.
    3. I get the next bill
3.1. I see the credit I am happy
3.2. I see a downgrade fee, which no one told me about for 10euro.
    4. Long arguement with UPC about this and the fact that they don't reply to emails, emails back and forth until I ring and I have another long conversation blah blah blah ye know how it goes.
    5. Pay my bill, less the 10 euro fine. Haven't heard anything back from UPC.
    6. Waiting for next bill to show 2 euro late payment fee and 10 euro from last bill.

I would get sky movies again only that it cost too much and I would be fearful of being charged 10 euro each time I cancel. (and its pretty ****)

I don't think I will get anywhere with this TBH but I just want to know what others think of this charge. Is this normal?

Yeah, but it not half the point of the downgrade charge to stop people signing up for a month (say over christmas) and cancelling afterwards.

Surely they would get loads of customers upgrading during the holidays if the knew they could during the holidays, and then downgrading. Not just at christmas but at Easter or perhaps the football seasons.

Go and charge the customer the extra 2 months and credit and make some money in interest

As I said if it was simple I might consider being lazy at least every 2 months.

So the customer service rep can check the movies box for nothing, customer pays for the movies watched but the monumental effort to uncheck the movies box costs a tenner?

Pure and utter ripoff and anybody that pays is a mug ..simple as.

Don't know if it's been mentioned, but the downgrade charge is now 15 euros.

Had a call from UPC a few weeks back offering to add broadband & phone to my existing TV subscription. After listening at length to the options, benefits and prices, I took great pleasure in asking:

    - "Ah, that sounds great actually, I'd love to try it. But do you still have a charge for downgrading?"
    - "Yes".
    - "Sorry then, I'm not interested".

I think the only thing the downgrade charge will achieve is preventing a lot of potential customers from upgrading in the first place.

Especially for people who just want to take on the movie/sports pack for a month or so. I know if their wasn't a downgrade charge every now and then I would go for sky movies. Hopefully they will have a Box office type service soon.

If anyone charged me a downgrade charge I would tell them to cancel the lot. Do they charge for that?

    If you're in mid-contract, I imagine they'd charge quite a lot! :) Otherwise, I don't think so.
