Ground have never been at (wont make this either) but from driving past it, could be a good bit of walking to be done after parking the car

Nice one-easier to get to Sligo than Castlebar.

Might be a bit tight, but 5pm kick-off won't suit everybody.

Here's hoping we can produce 2 good performances in a row and that the lads show the same pride in the jersey as they did last Saturday.

    Tir Chonaill Abu!

Any word on whether the lads 'celebrated' their win over Derry?

I doubt it. The players had a meeting last week and a few harsh words were spoken. The criticism seemed to get to them and they realised they are a better team than what they had shown so I believe there is a determination there now to prove a few people wrong.

Gonna be very tough for Galway I think....not sure they can pick themselves up really.
Didn't see Donegal Derry but they couldn't have played badly.
And why the hell did they pick Sligo?

Well Ted a quick look at our maps would show us that Sligo would be between Galway/Donegal, although closer for them :D

I'm glad we didn't get one of the weaker teams, would be pointless winning a game against Wicklow or Roscommon and getting put out in the 1/4's, this game should prove to be difficult and if we win, hopefully we can put up a good performance in the 1/4's, we need to up our game considerably, the amount of bad passes and soft ball we've given away since the 20min mark of the Sligo game is beyond pathetic.

If we get through this i'm hoping for Dublin next, never got to see us playing them yet and they'd be a great team to beat in Croker I'd say

depends where you're coming from! i spent 3 years in galway, i got to sligo a lot quicker than i got from sligo on to my home place in donegal. theres very little difference in fairness, and its in connaught so stop complaining :D

After watching both the semi-final and final I fear that Galway wont have much chance against Donegal. I dont think they will be able to match them physically and we dont have the quality. Oh what i wouldnt give to have that extra bit of stregnth/toughness ala john Divillly or Tomas Mannion or the flair of a Micheal Donnelan or Ja Fallon :(.
To be fair, I had the same opnion last year before they met Kerry so hopfeully they can pull out a similar performace

Good to hear Smashey. I'll gladly be proven wrong-I wrote them off after watching the display against Antrim, and displays against Carlow and Clare were hardly encouraging. If we can beat Derry, we can beat Galway, who haven't impressed me in their games against Sligo and Mayo. High balls in to Murphy should cause their defence plenty of problems. Whether our patched up midfield can do as well the next day remains to be seen, if Meehan and Armstrong are as quiet it will be no harm!

Looking forward to this in Sligo (as I live ten minutes from Markievicz Park :D) tickets only for the stand. It holds close to 20K I would imagine since it was done up. If we play the same as Saturday night then hopefully we can make the quarters.

i actually think donegal might take galway the next day galway hav absolutly no ball winners at midfield conroy while an excellent prospect, imo is not up to championship football at this moment in time also galway are expectin players to go back to the well once too many, players such as declan meehan, mathew clancy, also sean armstrong resembled a lost child the last day he needs to be in closer to goal

That's not Armstrongs fault, he had a good game against Sligo at FF, can't understand the logic from Sammon to play him at HF the last day, it's not like we had no option we only had 2 up there, would have only been reverting to a standard formation putting him where he should have been

Not too sure do i agree on Clancy either, he's not that old and we were buzzing until he went off against Sligo and you could also argue we made our comeback as soon as he came on the last day.
I taught he was excellent last year winning the breaking ball in midfield, cause we all know by now we can't catch it, let's hope we revert to that for the weekend.

I'd give ya Meehan though, he just looks a spent force this year, was poor against Sligo and did feck all on Sunday, there was one stand-out moment in the 1st half where he made a run down the left, lost control of it, and Mayo went down and put a point over from the resulting attack.....

Sharpness better be on display Sunday, we have just been pathetic working the ball up the pitch the past two games, it was like watching 15 lads who never played gaelic before playing together for the first time... poor control of the ball, poor runs(on and off the ball) and terrible execution of passes

just for the slower out there galway city is not all of galway try Clifden as a start point then when you get to Galway you are half way

Well if the slower comment was aimed at me - I was taking the 2 most heavily populated areas of both countys as starting points. Maybe try somewhere up in inishowen to sligo, for example carndonagh, exact same distance as clifden, so its time to build a bridge, its on in sligo end of. Why anyone would go from clifden via galway city to sligo is beyond me anyway

Clifden to Sligo is 2 hours 29 minutes while Gweedore to Sligo is 2 hours 19 minutes going by the AA.

Obviously though Castlebar or Roscommon would be fairer, eh, for Galway supporters!

    McGee reveals Donegal player unrest

Interesting from a Galway point of view. Although it can also bring the squad together more than unsettle them.

I would very much disagree. Dec Meehan was one of Galways best players on sunday. He was all over the field fighting for the ball and making a nusiance of himself. Anyone I was speaking to after the game praised his performance.

What galway need to do is send more ball in directly to Michael Meehan he will win his fair share as he proved in the last few minutes winning 2 balls under pressure which resulted in a goal and a good save. Ball was much too slow going forward in general on Sunday and Mayo always had time to set themselves.

Despite peoples opinion on Galway being poor this year I think a lot of their problem is stupid passing and giving the ball away. This is simple stuff and if they can eliminate this from their game they would improve a lot.

Im looking forward to the weekend now and I will be travelling to both the football and the hurling.

Do people think markevich will sell out. I was hoping the game would be in Hyde, only a little over an hours drive for me.

Wasn't Eamonn McGee also disciplined by McIvor for the same reason a few years ago?

He should probably be discplined himself for making these comments.

Btw, I agree that Neil Gallagher has been harshly treated and I would like to see him back in the squad-I know him (not that well) and he's a sound fella. The other fella, not so much-he wasn't injured and had no excuse for breaking out.

Terrible comments to come out with now alright, although have heard a few other rumblings as well but not made so public.
As I stated in some other thread here, Big Neil was hard done by in my opinion. I know what happened leading him to be thrown out of squad and thought it pretty severe to be honest. The other lad deserved to go for countless things. Other players and backroom staff could have also being thrown out too.

Galway have been a major disappointment the last two games. Unless there's a significant improvement (hard to find in 6 days) on Saturday, I wouldn't be at all surprised if Donegal beat us.

Until recently I thought Sammon was doing a good job, now I'm not so sure. The team is playing with no shape, no gameplan, and what tactics there have been raise big question marks. (for example, what on earth was Sean Armstrong doing out in midfield last Sunday???) I would also question the inclusion of Declan Meehan. He's not the player he used to be, and the likes of Darren Mullaghy and Alan Burke would be worth a try.

I can see this one being fairly close, and based on Galway's performances in the last 2 games Donegal haven't much to fear. Though if you were looking at it from a neutral perspective it's probably the hardest of the qualifiers to call.

Well you'll be happy to know that Armstrong is down to play in the HF line again on Saturday , somebody posted the team on the Galway/Mayo thread, not sure how true it is considering it's only Tuesday.... it beggers belief to be honest if true

Agree on Meehan aswell, he looked a spent force in the two games this year, and PJ looks like the spark is going too

McGee is right Gallagher hard done by. I hope the players can put in a performance like last week for the fans they deserve it after some great support last week. Most know JJ is not inter county quality and I'd imagine the players got themselves up for last week not JJ. So come on lads do it for your fans and get to croker!

Donegal team to be named after lunch tomorrow-we always seem to take longer than most teams to name the starting 15-even when it was named late in the week last week there were still changes made before kick off.

Don't Donegal managers and selectors understand that supporters need to know theses things so that they can be discussed on the internet well in advance of the actual game .

Anyway, I don't really see many changes given last week's performance-Michael Boyle to keep his place please God. A recall for Neil Gallagher would be nice as well, but I don't see it happening.

How will the backs line up? Lacey on Meehan? Who will take P Joyce?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 454 ✭✭greeno

Say it will be much same as last week Lacey will mark main danger Meehan. Last week Frank McGlynn, Neil McGee and Barry Dunnion all took turns to mark Eoin Bradley and kept him fairly quiet. Dunnion was most impressive when playing a sweeper role in front of 2 ff's a similar plan this week will hopefully prevent Galway getting the ball into that ff line. From what I have seen they are poor kicking from distance.

If can get Murphy and McFadden taking all their chances we have good chance but can't be kicking as many wides as last week it was so wasteful

Unchanged, I'd dropped Roper myself, better as impact sub

    1 Micheal Boyle
    2 Frank Mc Glynn
    3 Neil McGee
    4 Karl Lacey
    5 Barry Dunnion
    6 Barry Monaghan
    7 Eamon Mc Gee
    8 Brendan Boyle
    9 Kevin Cassidy
    10 Rory Kavanagh
    11 Brian Roper
    12 Leo McLoone
    13 Conal Dunne
    14 Micheal Murphy
    15 Colm McFadden

Lacey and Dunnion will probably be given the man marking duties.

Midfield will be crucial. Boyle and Cassidy did well against Derry and you have Dunne and Kavanagh about their too.

Looking forward to this one. Think it will be a decent match.
