Was lucky enough to play Rosses Point amoung a few other courses last week and I couldnt believe how good the finishing stretch is. Holes 16, 17, and 18 were so tough and so exillerating I can't imagine any other course with a better finish than that. Great course overall. Wouldnt rate it quite as high as Kevin rates it in his book but a great course nonetheless. Anyway for anyone who has played it they will know the holes im talking about. Anyone think theres a better finishing stretch out there?? Ive heard people raving about the last 4 holes at Carnoustie but i havnt played there yet.

Also lads, if you are playing Rosses Point, pay a visit to nearby Strandhill. That place took me completely by suprise and is the most fun ive had on a golf course in a long long time. Some truely awesome links holes there too.

I agree with you on Strandhill, ThunderCat. As for your question, there are really only a handful of courses in Ireland that compare - Waterville, Carne and Adare. The usual suspects are in there too (Ballybunion etc.).

As for Carnoustie - it's a brutal closing stretch and fantastic links golf, but it doesn't have much of a setting - i.e. the surroundings. Probably just as well as it's so tough. I played there 2 years ago and it cost £115. It's 130 now.

Have you ever played Muirfield Kevin?? Would love to play there. Turnberry looked great on TV last week too.

Havnt even been to Scotland before let alone played golf there but with all the great courses they have it's just a matter of time before I do. Id love to play Sunningdale and Birkdale in England too.

What's so scary about going to Scotland is that it costs more to put your clubs in the hold than it does to fly there AND hire a car. You have two choices really: fly to Edinburgh and play Carnoustie, Kingbarns, St. Andrews and Muirfield, or get the boat from Larne to Troon and play Turnberry, Royal Troon and Prestwick. Decisions, decisions.

I played Gleneagles (King's), Carnoustie and Machrihanish (separate trip). I wouldn't touch Gleneagles with a barge pole. Waste of money.

Anyway, must stop talking about Scotland. I'm here to promote Irish golf.

    PS. Yep, Turnberry looked amazing.

The last 3 in Powerscourt West are up there, all downhill with excellent views including the Sugar Loaf and a tasty par 3 from a elevated tee box, an enjoyable and fun finish...
