Dell Inspiron 9400 on Windows 7

Ok system crashed last night now only getting a BSOD from nvlddmkm.sys.

I can get into safe mode then uninstall the NVidia 7900gs and reboot into normal mode. I install any 7900 Driver and system goes back to BSOD.

On the Dell Startup screen before the OS boots the screen is already distorted.
I have ran the dell diagnostic tool from the start menu and no errors show up.
Also Flashed the BIOS and still no joy

Next step is a rebuild but i have a bad feeling the GPU is knackered.

Any ideas on how to determine if the PCIE Card is gone ?

Do you get distored display in the BIOS or safemode?

Also it's most likely the GO version "128 MB NVIDIA® GeForce® Go 7800 (G70)" so you need to insure its the correct driver you have.

Its the 7900gs 256MB so the universal driver from Nvidia has always worked without problem, I have been using Windows Vista and upgraded to 7 a month ago.

The screen is black with little blue squares from the Bios boot, I can run in safe mode and also booting into normal mode from the onboard but still distorted.
I am trying the Dell Driver now also.

See Pic below, this is normally jet black.

If your getting distored display in the BIOS its a faulty GPU/LCD.

If its the same on an external monitor it's the GPU, if its fine it will most likely be the LCD.

There is no distortion when booted into windows but that is using the onboard vga graphics so the LCD is ok.

tbh it dose sound like the higher level mem on the GPU but can never be certain without a full reinstall.

I beleive this is the correct part number of your GPU "T238G"

If you still have warrenty it's just a quick call to get it replaced.
