    Antrim Vs Kerry
    Kildare Vs Wicklow
    Galway Vs Donegal

Please keep discussion to these games.

If I see as much as one word alluding to the rumoured draw of yesterday evening, the poster will be banned until the end of September.

the relegation games in the hurling are causing problems. ive heard that offaly v antrim is on in parnel park on saturday, so would make sense to have it there. i wouldnt be happy with that place though

as pointed out elsewhere, the wickow v kildare game is a massive crowd draw.

then you have wexford v clare in the relegation, which apparantly is on in portloaise, so would they play 3 games there? its hard to call, f*ck knows what they will do, but theres no way that Kerry V antrim will be a stand alone game somewhere. im hoping they dont send us to navan.

So that rules Kildare V Wicklow out of that venue.
Wonder will the all-Leinster decider be in Dr. Cullen Park, Carlow!

    source please!

The other 3 fixtures make sense as the grounds capacity is ok for those, but cant see why antrim v kerry is fixed on its own and there. strange one. i assume that the offaly v antrim hurling game is moved also to there?

there wont be much of a crowd in tullamore if only one game, its not a place that will inspire many neutrals to go.

You're right but I think the problem is that McHale Park is still a building site. While they managed to get close to 15,000 in for the Mayo Roscommon game, they'll be expecting more for this qualifier and so it's probably a Health & Safety issue.

bloody hell - all the car parking will be gone by the time Kildare and Wicklow will get there.

How many would you expect to go to the Clare v Wex game?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,691 ✭✭✭david

    My predictions:

Antrim Vs Kerry - I think they'll finally find their form but not by much. Kerry +2pts.

Kildare Vs Wicklow - Only by a point or two, I'm biased! Last years win in croker was against a very rusty Kildare team, they'll be well briefed this time. Micko knows them quite well and half of Wicklow will be there. Wicklow +1pt or Wicklow AET.

Galway Vs Donegal - Tough call, but I see Galway sneaking it after almost having great comeback against Mayo. Galway +3pts.

Limerick Vs Meath/Roscommon - I think Limerick play too defensively which should suit Meath, so I'll go with Meath +5pts (sorry to write Roscommon off, but I see this as a formality)

    Finger's crossed for Micklow! :D

Not sure about the wexford supporters but I don't think many from clare will head up to it. Doubt any team supporters would like to go to a relegation match.
If you have any interest though in hurling, I'd go to it. Get the best value for your money. I'd say it will be a good game.

Last round of qualifers were all close calls in the end up but think 4 games this weekend wont be.

Kerry v Antrim; Kerry by 7pts, hoping they then get the dubs
Kildare v Wicklow; a bridge too far for micko, Kildare by 5
Galway v Donegal; :o Hope I am wrong but going for Galway by 5, cant see us producing the Derry display again
Meath v Rossie; Meath by 7

Wonder how the extra time will work for the Kildare V Wicklow game being televised if the previous 2 games go into extra time for TV3??
It is going to be a bit manic getting in and out of the Portlaoise as I doubt that the supporters will stay for all games and there will be a lot of to-ing and fro-ing!

I would guess that there will not be a big crowd from Wexford for the first two games. Some of them would be likely to wait around and support Wicklow, but not many I would guess.

Yep Kildare and Wicklow will travel, not far for Kildare to go and then Wicklow have never got so far, so they will be travelling to watch their county. I dunno, it just looks a bit messy to me.

Kildare won't travel in large numbers. The match is on TV3 and it is a Sat evening. The support base is not at the same level is used to be. If we had beaten Dublin then it may be different (we wouldn't be playing this weekend either!!)

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,432 ✭✭✭df1985

kildare most definately WILL travel to this.its down the road on the m7, i see a huge kildare crowd at this.im going from leixlip and have been offered 4 lifts down to it today alone, loads of people are planning to go.theres greta anticipation for it, considering wicklows current run and the fact they beat us last year.

Kerry fans rarely move out of their comfort zone of the county boundary, other than the odd trip to Pairc Ui Chaoimh, at this stage of the year, so a big crowd won't be in Tullamore.

2 weeks ago over 30000 travelled.Seriously lack of knowledge about kildare support. They have gone in big numbers to earlier games against Laois and Wexford.

Hard to know, might put a few off, it being in Sligo. I'd expect it to be close to a sell out, but probably suits Donegal better.

any one know what the deal for tickets is for the wicklow match? as it's a double header i take it i'll be lucky to get my hands on two :( Why they saw fit to have a hurling relegation battle on before it beats me

isnt like anyone from clare will travel? Maybe the players families or something but Id say that everyone in clare will be getting ready for the u21 munster final and trying to forget about the thought of relegation.

People from Kildare and Wicklow going to this, Bus Eireann have buses every hour going down. Know it could be more awkward for Kildare people, as only stops are in Kildare Town and Monasterevin. But stops in Portlaoise, its close to stadium. Could be tight for getting home though, but its an option. Also, go down early and watch the hurling!

Antrim Vs Kerry - I'm not at all confident about this game but I think that bad as we're playing we're still pulling wins out of somewhere and I think we'll scrape through here and then go onto Croker to either click into gear or sink without trace when we at last come up against a good team...

Kildare Vs Wicklow - All good things come to an end, and imo this is the end of the line for the Wicklow fairytale.

Galway Vs Donegal - By far the hardest one to call imo. I just think Galway have that extra bit of footballing ability to see them throught this one...

Meath v Roscommon - Home advantage should see Meath through here but I think whoever wins will lose to Limerick...

I'm a Donegal man and I reckon Galway will beat us. We raised our game against Derry biut I really don't think there is another big performance like that in this team.

    Wicklow to win.

    1) We beat Kildare last year.

    2) Kildare lost their last game, we won 3 in a row.

Unreliable. The page for Cusack Park in Ennis lists the capacity as 28,000 when it's definitely no more than 20,000. There was 14,000 at the Galway-Clare game and it looked at least 3/4 full, so no way it holds 28,000.

I'd say Portlaoise holds close to 30,000 alright though. I'd expect 20-25,000 at the Kildare-Wicklow game as Kildare will travel in sizeable numbers and there's sure to be huge interest in Wicklow.

    WallyGUFC wrote: »

I can't see a big Galway support at this game. Castlebar would be a fairer venue but that's obviously unavailable. Sligo is a fair spin for the Galway supporters and with the hurlers playing Sunday aswell I don't think there will be a big Galway following at this. Markiwieczs Park will comfortably hold the crowd as there probably won't be more than about 10,000 max.

As for the game itself, hard to call. Galway have been hugely disapointing so far, while Donegal were also poor until they raised their game for Derry. I think Galway will probably shade this one but I don't see us going much further.

hold your horses there a bit.

    1. yes you did beat us last year but this years kildare are a vastly superior outfit to last years, anyone can see that.

    2. yes we lost our last game, but we lost to dublin in the match of the championship so far this year. dublin are believed to be serious all ireland contenders this year.you have one your last 3 but against 3 teams who i wouldnt consider strong opposition, tough yes like any championship game and well done for beating them but not the strongest.we also won 3 this year. And who did ye lose too, westmeath, who were then steamrolled by dublin.

im not saying kildare are a shoein to win and yes im a bit nervous about the game but realistically kildare have to be considered favourites.kildare by 3 or 4.

I fancy Wicklow to take Kildare and it would be great to see them at the quarter Finals in Croke Park.

Kerry and Galway to win the other 2 games.

Kildare traditionally do travel to Croke Park - however the LF was still not a sell out.

Look at how many people went to Portlaoise and Tullamore. Very few and support normally drops off after a loss. I will be very surprised if there are more than 8-10k Kildare supporters. Combined with 7k Wicklow and perhaps 5k from the other matches.

Still doesn't seem to be much commen sence regarding these fixtures

    http://www.rte.ie/sport/gaa/championship/2009/0721/antrim.html

Antrim football boss Liam Bradley has lashed out at the GAA's decision to hold Antrim's All-Ireland football fourth round qualifier against Kerry in Tullamore.

Bradley and the Antrim board had sought to have their game in Parnell Park on Saturday as part of a double header with their hurlers relegation play-off against Offaly.

Instead, they will play the following day in Tullamore, a decision which Bradley claims in punishing supporters.

'I think it is an absolute disgrace that the GAA have decided to have the Antrim hurlers play Offaly in a relegation qualifier in Dublin on the Saturday and the footballers in Tullamore on the Sunday,' he said.

'They are asking Antrim supporters to travel to Parnell Park on Saturday, then either go back home again or stay and go down to Tullamore the following day. That is disgraceful. The GAA are showing no consideration to the supporters whatsoever.'

Bradley also believes the football qualifier will be played in front of a near empty stadium because of the GAA's decision.

'You know as well as I do that the Kerry supporters won't travel in big numbers this weekend for a qualifier against Antrim. We will be very, very lucky if there are 500 Kerry people at that match.

'They would have had a huge number of Antrim supporters had they had it in Dublin. It is straight down the motorway to Parnell Park which was the obvious choice. I would say there will hardly be 1,000 people in Tullamore on Sunday,' he insisted.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 554 ✭✭✭spongeman

Yes that is a bloody disgrace. Antrim footballers and hurlers should be playing on the same day in the same place.

So there is a Kildare man on telling me to hold my horses.......

Not many horses in Wicklow !!!!!!!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,742 ✭✭✭blackbelt

I do feel sorry for Antrim supporters. Why on Earth did the CCCC fix the two games on two different days in two different venues??It means Antrim fans will have to go to one of the two games or stay in Dublin and head down to Tullamore the next day.

It just isn't logistically correct.Antrim hurlers play Offaly in Parnell Park on Saturday at 3pm and then their footballers play Kerry in Tullamore the next day at 2pm.The fact that they also brought that fixture forward an hour shows further contempt for the fans.

What they should have done was have a double header in Parnell Park.Have the hurling match at 2pm and the football match at 4pm to further accomodate the Kerry fans and the difference in the distance it takes to travel from Tullamore to Dublin which is approximately an hour and 15.Kerry fans could get a flight, train or bus too.

Parnell Park is ideal for a fixture like this.Lets be honest, there won't be many going up from Kerry and Parnell Park is a bit smaller so it it less costly and makes a better atmosphere.

Alternatively, they could have a double header in Tullamore.I don't think Antrim are too bothered if Offaly had home advantage as long as they could see both of their teams.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 554 ✭✭✭spongeman

I think that Kerry should watch out against Antrim. Antrim got 15 points against Tyrone, and Kerry are no Tyrone.
