    Has anyone had experience claiming compensation for holiday delays under the new EU Regulation (details attached0

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/European_Commission_Regulation_261/2004

    We were in Orlando last week and had a delay of almost 24hrs on our return flight. We were bussed to a local hotel and had free meals then bussed back to the airport but If I'm reading this correct (Section 3 - Compensation & Assistance) then we are entitled to make a claim against the airlines. Its a 2004 ruling but its the first we've heard of it.
    Thanks in advance.

    Which airline?

    The regulation applies to any passenger:
    departing from an airport located in the territory of a Member State to which the Treaty applies;
    The protection accorded to passengers departing from an airport located in a Member State should be extended to those leaving an airport located in a third country for one situated in a Member State, when a Community carrier operates the flight.
    departing from an EU member state, or
    travelling to an EU member state on an airline based in an EU member state

    I'm pretty sure the compensation is not paid for delay but rather only where
    a flight is cancelled or you are bumped off your seat.

    We travelled with Thomas Cook airlines and flew into Belfast. The regulation seems to cover us but where do we go if they claim to know nothing about it and try to fob us off?
