Hi dont know if anyone can help me but ordered an item from chaina over 3 weeks ago.. Neary 2 weeks in i was given a tracing no and after a week of the parcel not arriving in ireland i got onto the shop i ordered off ( I ordered off an english website which i had a phone no. for the man) He the sent me another tracing no. which had absolutley no info and said that the parcel had arrived in irleand and customs sent it back... I have never heard of this and when i have bought items out of america when the items arrived in portlaois it came up straight away before it went anywhere near customs... The have now given me a third tracing no. and it says that it has been dispactched from sorting centre in china that was on the 9th July and nothing since.. Does anyone know is this normal or has it happened to them? What could i do?? Please any opinon or advice would be brilliant frown.giffrown.giffrown.giffrown.gif

What sort of item, and how much was it? Are we talking about an AK47, a teddy bear, or computer parts...?

If it was perhaps an airsoft device and shipped via EMS then it was halted by UK customs, all their stuff goes via a UK hub. Just a small possibility.

What is the important part here; the fact customs would send it directly back sounds, odd...

It was just soe jewellery bout 130euro so i dont think it would be sent back... It will be 4 weeks since i ordered on wed and i was told it would only take about 10 days to deliver. It was shipped via ems

if it was considered to be counterfeit or contravening copyrights then customs would seize it or return it to china.

But it isnt.. I have brought over a designer 'style' handbag from the us before and had no probelem and have had absolutley no problem with customs..

If it was illegal in any way, customs would seize it, not return it to the forger.

What's the website? There are plenty of scam sites out there, a lot based in China, and mostly they sell cheap electronics, but I guess jewelery is a possibility too. If it was too cheap, then it was definitely a scam. The fact that they've sent you so many tracking numbers, quickly, and all going nowhere, leads me to believe you're being conned. No company will re-send a lost item before they check it out and confirm that it's gone.

As for customs seizing items, they can stop, inspect, value and charge you duty and VAT on any item valued over 22 euro, once it originates outside the EU. The duty limit is actually 150 euro, but VAT applies after 22 euro.

It is an english website found it on ebay... I have already paid 15% vat because he said that he is VAT registered. Told me this is the first thime this has happened and got angry when i staarted to sound suspicous having ago saying do i not believe him etc. I paid with paypal but i only have 45 days from when i ordered when i told him on friday i was considering opening a dispute with paypal he told me he was ok because i have a tracking no. and the goods are 'in transit'

I've heard of these scams before where they drag the process on past the 45 days so that you can't make a claim via paypal. If your stuff doesn't arrive by the 44th day make sure you make a paypal claim. 44 days is more than enough time for anything to arrive from anywhere in the world. What does the seller's feedback look like on ebay?

Yeah, common enough as they know there's nothing you can do after 45 days. Start a dispute now, since it's been 3 weeks, then give it a few days before you escalate to a claim.

 His ebay feedback 99.9%.. bought off him a few months ago but that was stuff out of his english store and were ok. What do i say to paypal i have never opened a dispute before.. Or should i just give him another week for giving him the benefit of the doubt? The worst part about it is its my partners money :(:(:(

How many sales has he though for that 99.9%? I've seen Chinese scammers working together, leaving positive feedback for each other. If it's only 20 or 30 sales, then it could be suspicious but if it's a few hundred then - he might be legit.

Politely ask for your money back, and if he refuses - open a dispute.

Just checked he has over 3000 feedback.. Rang him this morning and said that i needed to open a dispute with paypal told me that i really couldnt because i have an active tracker no!! I do not know what to do told me other people who have ordered after me have recieved mine and that it could be because im living in ireland..

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 20,759 ✭✭✭✭dlofnep

Ask him to politely refund you, and that if the package ever arrives, you'll return it to him - But that you have no faith in it ever getting to you, so that if he fails to refund you - you will be forced to open a dispute. Give it 24 hours. No response, then open it.

Bullsh*t of the highest order. He doesn't want you to open a dispute, but he doesn't get to decide on it. The UK/HK tracking numbers work fine here in Ireland too, so that's more bull.

If the current tracking number doesn't show any detail of where it's gone to, then you don't have an active tracking number. From recent orders from China, I can tell you that it will tell you when it arrives in Ireland, and even when delivery is confirmed.

Start a dispute now, and give him a day or two to respond, then up to a claim if you have to.

There's no point in getting customs to investigate it, the package doesn't exist. She was scammed, and will never see any product or her money again.

I have gotten in bits and pieces from china before normally when i track it it says posted in china then it can take anything from 2-10 days to appear in Portloaise. Had 1 package taken by customs in china that took about 3 weeks to get here.

Daveyid89 : If you have no tracking number then contact the website you bought from because customs cant do anything for you they wont check through the thousands of parcels trying to find your one. What was the website ?

But buying 800 euro worth of stuff of a dodgy site is asking for trouble

ya i know was awful dodge, but she used the site before to buy like 200euro worth of stuff and no problems there, but that could of been an elaborate trust building thing on behalf of the webmaster......

not sure on the story with customs tbh. i think they wanted her to fill in a form stating wht she wanted them to llook for, they never said they did or didnt have, ive stopped asking cuz i wasnt exactly keen on the idea in the 1st place... what with being the cheapest son of a bit*h i know
