I NEED HELP WITH SOFTWARE

    Hi there Software experts,

I am getting a message each time that I try to open Word 2000, that says, Word 2000 not responding.

I uninstalled the whole package and reinstalled it again and the same message.

I also uninstalled the 2007 package that came installed on my Laptop and still the same.

Any ideas out there as to how In can fix this. I tried the M/Soft web site for a patch, could not find it there. The patch is somewhere out there, I just have not been able to find it yet. Help.
I have Vista Home Premium installed.Peter

    Many Thanks,

Its not that I am stuck for a Word Processor, its that I want to solve the Windows Vista and Word 2000 problem.
All the other stuff from 2000 works very well.

    Peter :)

Office 2000 is not supported on Vista.

OP, try using Word in compatibility mode. It is not supported officially, but from a quick Google, it might do so with it running using compatibility mode.

Officially, for best stability, Office 2003 and above for Vista. Not that I agree with that statement myself, but there you go.. (long standing Office 2000 user)

Was it working before? If yes create for a test a new windows profile, and try to start it from there.

Check i you don't have any strange templates or add-ins running in Microsoft Office.

I had a similar problem with a friend of mine.

She'd installed an AV onto her machine. The laptop had come with a trial of Symantec that she didn't uninstall first.

When I uninstalled both versions Word wouldn't open properly. It ended up being some remenant of Symantec that wouldn't die. I got rid of it after trawling Google.

Probably not the issue here but no harm checking.

Do a search for normal.dot and delete all copies of it that show.

This file is the template file for word and will automatically be recreated once you open word.
This fixes 90% of all word issues.
