I just moved into a house recently with strangers and over the last few days one of teh housemates has gotten the flu.
I have just been watching teh news which put the idea of swine flu into ny head.

Just how contageous is swine flu?

I'm kind of uncomfortable living with someone who has the flu.

I barely know teh individual so i don't really want to insist they go the doctor about it.

WHat would you do? Would you just avoid teh house for a coupel of days? Insist they go to the doctor? Or just assume it is not swine flu ?
    Am i overreacting?

Yes, you are overreacting. The current swine flu outbreak is, for now, quite a mild infection and is not considered any worse than catching the flu any other year. The reason it has been declared a pandemic is purely because of the numbers involved as it has spread across a wide area very quickly. The vast majority of fatalities associated with the infection have been among the very young, the elderly or people with underlying medical problems such as asthma or heart disease.

Actually catching the flu is rare enough, most people catch a cold and declare themseles to be flu-ridden. Your housemate may simply have a common cold, be suffering from alergic rhinitis (hayfever) or indeed may actually have swine flu. However, unless you feel you're in a high risk group or his symptoms deteriorate rapidly over the next couple of days, I wouldn't be getting overly concerned about it just yet. That said, you can simply take extra precautions yourself such as using a hand sanitiser, minimising contact with the housemate, etc.

I should also point out that I am not a medical professional, all of the above comes merely from what I have read to keep myself acquainted with the situation. Should you require further reassurance you should speak to your own GP.

I just had a bad flu for over a week I was a bit worried but I am feeling great again. You should stay away from your house mate with the flu there is a nasty dose going around.

Depends. have they the male flu version'll be grand or the female? If it's the male version-be it swine flu or not, I'd run fast. If it's the female version you'll be grand.

    YES-you're overreacting!!
