If you think you can handle some basic html coding yourself, then you could buy a template (maybe 25euro) and adapt it.

if its only a small number of pages you'd be better off doing it yourself.

it would probably take longer to do - but you'll gain a good understanding if how the website works and how to adjust/fix any problems that you find.

go to www.elance.com and post a project. Give as much detail as possible. You will get overseas designers who will do great work for very little money.

One of the best ways to find a web designer is to ask people you know and trust for their recommendations.

There are LOADS of sites that sell templates and themes... do a quick bing (or google)

    Hi

Probably a bit late but I did my own website recently for my own start-up business... I used the standard package from Mr Site. Its only £35 and would give you all you need. Just takes a little bit of effort to get it looking good but they have a great selection of templates which should do you if you are only looking for a basic website. They give an instruction manual with the price and your domain name is included in the price. Bargain!

They show sample websites too so you can get an idea of what you can achieve.

    www.mrsite.co.uk

I'd highly recommend it. Just a tip though - have a clear idea of the colour, format and appearance of your website before you start inputting the text. Will save you alot of time later on...

    Good luck!!

As others have said, work off a trusted recommendation instead.

OP I know what you think you need is "basic", it may or may not be. The number of pages says nothing about complexity, as it is entirely possible to have a 1 page website that is technically more complex and costs more than a 10+ page. So you need to write down a lot of information about the site you need, and then talk to an agency about those requirements and see if they can be tweaked to give you a maximum return on your investment. The ROI is what it's all about, isn't it?

This idea of someone doing the job themselves, when they have no background in the area is never a good idea. Yes you will be able to create a website, that's not the hard part. Will it serve your business well?....definately not. Just because someone can use Microsoft Word, doesn't automatically make them a best selling author, the web is no different, and there's much more to it than just content strategies alone.
