Full maintenance grant + masters abroad

I qualify for a full maintenance grant, but I live in Blanchardstown. Is there any way I'll get the non-adjacent rate? It's much higher and would really be needed. I live 17km from Maynooth.

Please give me good news ;)

Also, another question. I'll be doing the second year of a research masters in History. As such, I'd like to travel to the country where my thesis is based, which should be fine. If I should chose to go to another country after that and write up my thesis, will the department take a dim view of this or do they even have to know?

    Help would be great. cheers.

Getting the non-adjacent grant would really tilt my head towards actually getting stuck into this thing this year.

ok fair enough you live in a built up area, but surely you can't claim extra for living 17km away?

    In fairness...
    17!!!!

I'm still not sure how the postgrad system is supposed to work in this country. Are we supposed to take out loans? Save up money from summer jobs when none are now available? Work while doing a full time course when no jobs are available? Leech of my parents?

I'm just saying, 1300 hardly covers a lot. Granted, I get my fees paid for, which is amazing, but it seems as though we can do it half hearted trying to scrape some money together or to into some serious debt.

A wee bit more help wouldn't hurt.

Edit: I've already deferred one year because I couldn't afford it, not having to do it again would be nice.

I'm on the same as you and work as well, it really isn't that much for a whole year and I definitely wouldn't get by without the job as well. I mean the train is what, 40 euro a week as it is? Have you looked into a top up grant? Not too sure how that works.
