Can you be a member in two clubs at the same time?

Im a member in a Club in Galway at the min where I live and play all the time but am soon moving to Dublin and wont really be playing at my present club much, only every now and then when I visit home.

When I move to Dublin I want to join another club in Dublin where I will play all the time. I wont be rejoining my club in Galway next year after this years membership runs out.

    What do you think??

    Cheers,

    Alan

no problem at all, you just need to designate one of them your "home" club for handicap, GUI doesnt allow you to have 2.

The only issue is that the second club doesnt look favourably on new members that are not using their club as the primary club. though in the recession that shouldnt be as big a problem

Yes you can have a membership in more than one club but only one of these is your 'home' club and they administer your handicap. You may be able to keep on a 'country/distance' membership at your Galway club if you ask them nicely... might work out reasonable enough if they allow that sort of thing. In a way they'd be foolish not to.

A twist on the OP question, can you have 2 handicap's? i.e. you will have 2 GUI numbers, I assume you give a handicap cert from your first club to the second club, how would that operate within your Golfnet record? I'm not saying you play with 2 'different' handicap's but how does the GUI ensure that only 1 club admins your handicap?

one number, one handicap too, and as far as i know the club you play most qualifying golf is your home club.........not 100% but think it is anyway

Your original club is automatically deemed your home club unless otherwise stated.
There's no need to produce a handicap cert to your 2nd club as golfnet is universal and any comp's you play in other than in your home club are all considered "away" whether your a member of that "away club" or not.
