    Hi,
I've no experience cycling a racer, but having borrowed a pal's one for a weekend, I'm keen to buy one to improve my fitness and for the thrill of going flat out on a fast bike. Compared to my standard commuter hybrid, I found cycling his Trek 1.9 really fast and enjoyable. I have 1,000euro and wanna get a new one. I've been to Mike's Bikes in Dun L,Hollingsworth Templeogue and Kilmacud, Joe Daly's Dundrum, Cycleogical in town and a bike shop in Cabinteely. They were really friendly in Daly's, as was a youngish mid 30s guy in Cycleogical. The owner in Kilmacud knew his stuff but belittled my own lack of knowledge..which is a pity..cos I'd like to buy a bike off somebody local, helpful and decent rather than off Lidl or from the north.Daly's were really helpful, but only have Treks for sale. Templeogue guy was nice, had different brands and let me try out a Claud Butler San Remo (i have sicne doubled my budget to a grand but found it very nice) One experienced pal of mine told me to get a trek 1.9 or all carbon Madone 4.5 trek..but they're twice my price limit. Are the bikes on chainreaction cycles for a grand (they have an all carbon entry level one for 99 sterling) good ? They are selling a brand called "BeOne" but I've not seen it in the shops. Another pal told me to ignore the carbon frame necessity..is Lidl's 900 euro bike good ? On a Uk bike website, it said that bike is worth 1500 sterling...I'm very confused..I'm either gonna go north and spend a grand there, get the Lidl bike..or shell out another few bob and get a Trek 1.2 for 1100 in Templeogue..advice would be greatly appreciated.

    Some handy links:

    Lidl bike: http://boards.ie/vbulletin/showthread.php?t=2055607743&highlight=lidl+bike

I presume you know of the cycle to work scheme. So you may be able to up your budget to €1250-1500 and still only pay €1000: http://wiki.boards.ie/wiki/BikeToWork

Focus bikes in your price range are highly thought of here: http://www.wiggle.co.uk/m/cycle/7/Focus/

hi and welcome to boards. do a search and loads of different threads will come up, for your money(plus a little extra) you should be looking at the focus cayo off www.wiggle.co.uk loads of people have them and they seem to be very happy, or maybe a planet x
Beone is a dutch brand and chainreactions are the only people selling them in Ireland AFIK. I have a entry level beone and happy with it, better value than the more established brands, i think anyway.
you should get a nice bike for a grand, look through the previous post and you'll get more ideas to confuse/help you.:)
some shops are now price matching so if you see something you want, ask in the shop will they match it they can only say no.

Have LIDL bike, it is super. My friends have now christened it Rebeca as I prefer to cycle than do a lot of other stuff.
