I am planning to travel to Moscow in a few weeks but need advice on a few things.

Do you need a visa to enter Russia and how long does it take to acquire one ?
Can you use your banklink card from here in Moscow ?
    Do they accept € ?

Thanks in advance for any replies.

    I went there last year.

The hostel we were staying in sent us an "invite". We then used a visa company here in Ireland to get the visa (they're based in College Green I think .. we sent them visa and flight details). It took about 2 weeks. (I can't remember the name of the company TBH but someone like USIT should be able to arrange it. We paid the extra just for someone else to sort it out for us).

I could use my banklink card in some ATMs.

    They didn't take Euro.

You can also get the invite online - when I was there two years ago there were limited amounts of hostels that could send out invites - if you get it this way you can stay in whatever hotel/hostel you like.

I bought one for 20 euro from these guys

When you're applying you just put down the cities you are going too and they'll send back an email with the invite that you can just print out. I don't know if you still have to but when I was there you have the state the hotel you're staying in, however these invites will say you're staying in the hotel moscow in moscow or the hotel st. petersburg in st. petersburg etc. This doesn't matter when you're getting the visa, you just need any hotel name there.

I went directly to the embassy too, they're based in Dublin (Orwell Road I think). They have bad opening hours - something like 9 till 1230 for visa applications. There is also a cost for getting the visa, which gets more expensive the quicker you want it. You can get the application form online with a quick google search and bring that, your invite and your money, that's all you need!

Banklinks seemed to work ok, they don't accept euros though.
