How's it going, I am heading to a wedding in Switzerland in about 2 weeks.:D

I was just wondering if somebody could give me a rough estimate on prices of the usual stuff beer, fags and food.

I will be in Stein Am Rhein which is close enough to Zurich.

I also would be interested in hearing any reviews/places to go(I'm 19) if anyone else has been there.

    Thanks,
    Conor

Its expensive, just like Paris! A 0,5L beer will set you back 7 quid easily.

Jaysus 7 quid. I think I might stock up in the duty free before I land

Thats in Zurich though, not an outer town where you will be going. Eating out for food is about the same as our rip-off, maybe add 10%.

Dunno about cigs as i don't smoke :) But i do remember my other half who was shopping for her cig-addicted father that she got shocked at the cig prices in duty-free(Zurich) that she ended buying them in Dublin!!

Souvenirs, you'll get ripped off at the airport, even in duty free!! Though some prices for clothes are hit and miss in the airport itself, there is the odd big store that does reasonably priced stuff amongst the majority of pricey stores.

The old part of Zurich is actually pricey for stuff, nevermind the posh part!! Though, in the posh part, there are fair priced stores to buy stuff.

The impression i got from Switzerland when i went there last November was that even though its pricy, it has its obvious reasons. As most prices are maybe 10% dearer than Ireland, whats Ireland's excuse to be dear? Hence, you really feel ripped off in Ireland when you return home!

If your going to Zurich(i was on a city break for a weekend), do go up this fellow http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Grossm%C3%BCnster. Its a climb to the top to get you fit and gives a wonderful view of the city!

And yeh, Zurich is very safe, you'll be lucky to spot anything dodgy going on!

I won't be too worried about the souveniers though don't they will be high on my to buy list. Yea I think some of the boys are hiring a car so I must tell them about that spot.
Good man thanks for the info. :D
