Played them all except San Andreas. I think I like Vice the most. Playing GTA4 at the moment but doesn't grab me tbh

Played and finished all the GTA games except for finishing 4. I think GTA Vice City was the best with the whole 80's/Scarface theme.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 239 ✭✭sd08

Liked them all for different reasons.
Vice City had the great theme and 80s style.
San Andreas had so much to do.
IV had some great next-gen stuff, for all it's shortcomings.
But for me GTA 3 was the best, introduced so many new things to gaming, and without it we wouldn't have had any of the others.

Vice City is a personal favourite of mine. Loved the music and 80's theme in that. :)

Been playing Chinatown Wars on the DS recently ( I know this is out of place in the Playstation forum ) but in terms of gameplay and grabbing your interest it's a close second.

Vice City. Only one I finished 100% too.

I agree with sd08 about how GTAIII pretty much broke the mould, but Vice City just improved on every aspect without compromising anything. San Andreas just had too much to do and too big an area that you just got lost interest too quickly. GTA4 is great, but can be bettered.

The very first GTA was absolutely brilliant too. GTA2, not so much.

Plyed Vice City the longest so has to be that, used to just drive around listening to the music long after finishing it :D

Vice City for the reasons above. Atmosphere was great.

+infinity for vice city. amazing game.

Vice City. Hell i remember back in the day where you used to pray that a pc mag did a preview of it just to see what Rockstar where doing. Plus the soundtrack to that game trumps any other GTA game ever! Still SA has a place in my memory just for the chaos it created on release date around the country, every store that sold games was jammers with people trying to get it. Never again sadly.

Vice City is enormously good fun, and more consistently than the others. The balance of cartoonyness and realism was just right.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,026 ✭✭✭Amalgam

I liked the first one for the sheer speed of it. Oh.. and if you want to try it, it's free. Legally. Along with GTA 2.

Spent so much time on Gta III, Vice City and San Andreas!

Its a tie between VC and SA for me.

If I was forced to pick one then I'd pick Vice City, brilliant storyline, soundtrack and gameplay.

    Tommy Vercetti is a legend!

Vice City just for Maurice Chavez:pac:

But in all seriousness it's my favourite game in the series. The whole 80's vibe along with the strong story in general means it's an easy choice for me.

The liking for VC is probably a sign of the age of people here and probably a hatred for 'Urban' culture because SA was the best game of the series quite clearly.

In terms of just the 'world' its set in it is definetly the best for me, and the soundtrack was awesome.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 22,048 ✭✭✭✭Snowie

Them all From when GTA or for those who no it was going to be called race and chase :D what a corney name...:pac:

At the end of it I like them all looking forward to playing lost and the dammed, and the ballad of gay tony, I think in general GTA 3 simply because from a birds eye view to 3D in 2 years was some serous advancements made in game's and TEC ...

In total there the best sand box games you can get...

Not really, alot of people just like the 80's setting, bright lights classy music and a high time for organised crime. SA was just a cliched gangster flick with some GTA styled side missions.

well that and the hole Miami vice/carlitos way/scarface similarities with a small take on donnie brasco, if you ask me...

Not at all. I actually quite enjoyed San Andreas but still perferred Vice City mainly because of the reasons "Stev_o" listed above.

Vice city id definately my favorite.

Loved the 80s style, and the music was good too.

It also had alot of humour that the others didnt have.

It was also fun to spot the many movie references throughout the game.

    Eg Scarface, Miami Vice etc

Vice City, I liked GTA3 but as a child of the 80's Vice City was the first that really thrilled me
I'd love to see it re-done with modern graphics some day

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,916 ✭✭✭Flecktarn

GTA3 was ground breaking I thought

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,516 ✭✭✭Outkast_IRE

All class except san andreas , The area was just way way to big and then they would send you on a mission to the opposite side of the map and it could be a 15 minute drive , if i wanted a 15minute drive i would drive my own ****ing car. And then if you die you have driven 15 mins for nothing just to do it again !!!!!!!!!! ah i hate that game love all the rest though.
If gta4 was a bit more humourous it would go a long way. But on a storyline level gta4 is great

GTA 4 would be my favourite if it weren't for the following:
The clothes choice is CRAP, (there was like 1000000 more clothes you cud buy in SA)
    no planes,
    no haircuts,
    no parachutes,
    no flamethrowers,
    no satchel charges,
    no miniguns,
    can't drive trains,
90% of soundtrack is CRAP! (except stuff like 1979, bob marley, R.E.M etc.),
    no underwater swimming

    San Andreas

Loved the way different areas in California were represented. One minute in a casino in vegas then out in a hick town in the country listening to K-Rose. The game seemed to have lots of variation.

For me it would be Vice City as it was set in the 80s and there were many famous people in it such as :
    Ray Liotta (Goodfellas),
Tom Sizemore (Heat and Saving Privite Ryan),
William Fichtner (Black Hawk Down and Prison Break)
Philip Michael Thomas (Ricardo Tubbs in Miami Vice)
Robert Davi (Licence to Kill and Die Hard)
Danny Dyer (The Business and The Football Factory)
Burt Reynolds (The Cannonball Run and Smokey and the Bandit)
Danny Trejo (Heat and From Dusk Till Dawn)
Gary Busey (Lethal Weapon and Under Siege)

and even in San Andreas you have:
Samuel L Jackson (Die Hard 3 and Pulp Ficton)
Chris Penn (Starsky and Hutch and True Romance)
James Woods (The Hard Way and Casino)
    and even Peter Fonda.

The thing is that in GTA IV there is no famous people absolutely none!
As much as i dont like GTA IV i still play it as it does have good driving controls and thats it.

I personally hope that the next GTA will be set in the 80s.

    My two cents.

I just bought the GTA double pack of GTA 3 and Vice City from Ebay.
I played them a little in friends houses when they were out first but now I'm gonna play them on my 360.
Has anyone played them on the 360 ?
Do they work properly....and comments etc ?
I had GTA IV but didn't really like it too much.

The clothes choice, if i cared about clothes i would buy the sims with all its addon packs, GTA is best at its roots, an action game with a good story and funny moments and cool missions and charecters.

Vice city easily had the best story, was the most enjoyable at the time, SA was a better game though it was huge, you could get lost in that game for weeks on end.

GTA 3 is just forgotten about the follow ups where so good (very rare for any sequels) But I fondly remember the original GTA we had great fun with that one and I still wish they'd bring back the Hare Krishnas.

GTA4 looked great, played great but there was just nothing more to it, there's so little to do in the city, coming from SA it was a real disapointment.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,815 ✭✭✭Burgo

toss up between 3 and vc really.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 767 ✭✭✭claiva

    Oh man,
Started playing Vice City the other night on the 360 after downloading the emulator or whatever it is.
    What a game :D:D:D
Still looks great and is already much better craic than GTAIV was.

You just can't beat doing a mission, saving the game, then going out and running amok for a few minutes safe in the knowledge that you can just load up the saved game and continue doing the missions again.

Vice City is class. Havent played it in afew years now as I finished it.

    The soundtrack..brill.

My favourite pastime was getting a hooker then afterwards beating the **** out of her and getting my money back...:D

san andreas for me. spent more time just messing around in that than any of the others, so i think it had the best enjoyment factor over the others

I love the entire series but...

    GTA IV for me

I know it lacked some gameplay but it made up for it and more in openness and graphic realism.

    Best game ever imho =D

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 48 sinabhfuil

Has to be San Andreas for me. It was huge but the gameplay was very good and there was plenty to do. Never completed GTA IV. I got a bit bored of it after a while.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 14,516 ✭✭✭✭briany

I'd have to go with GTA IV too, I mean I've played Vice City and San Andreas but I still think the latest is the greatest. I sort of am a graphics whore though so I think thats a fairly big factor in the whole thing.

I cant choose between GTA 3 or San Andreas

I loved GTA 3 becoz it woz dark and gritty, pretty much a dirty themed game, filled with scumbags,
absolutly loved having wars with cops on that game, especially at the place wer the construction site is coz its filled with Yakuza and Cartel at one stage.

I still play the PC version of San Andreas to death becoz i think its the best version, and i loved the whole RPG element they put onto the game.

Hope they do wot san andreas did with the next GTA game after theyre dun with the expansions for GTA 4 :D

Cant say i like GTA 4 that much, maybe just the story missions, but thats it

Hmmm... It's a bit of a tossup between Vice City and San Andreas but I think I prefer Vice City a little bit, the only problem being that the map was a bit plain... Just a flat-land really... No big hills or motorways or rail networks like you have in the others...

But other than that Vice City had all the humour and stuff that makes GTA what it is... it's supposed to make stealing cars and killing fun! Plus it fixed an awful lot of the problems with #3... It still had the Kill Frenzies - what happened to this? these were great part of the game! I think San Andreas started the trend of taking itself too seriously. Just look at the radio stations too... There's way too much serious stuff on the radio in SA. And having to stop to eat is just an annoyance.

Now I like the idea of the huge map, but Los Santos seems to be the only city with real detail put into it... The other two are a bit plain (though north of Las Venturas is good).
SA has some really cool missions though, and a great variety of things to do.

Also, loved the radio stations of #2, and the save-game point being in a cheesey church with the neon "Jesus Saves" sign was a lovely touch... But found it a bit slow compared to the first one.. (Although with the top down view, going to fast just resulted in crash after crash as you couldn't see what was coming - especially annoying on a motorbike)

I don't really care about big name actors for the voices like Samuel L Jackson or Ray Liotta or any of the rest, it's a computer game not a movie. I feel like they're there just because of their names... So I don't miss them in #4. If anything they should be hiring voice actors anyway not live-action actors. But I don't have a good enough computer to play #4 with any enjoyability yet.

Vice City or San Andreas. I love the storyline in VC but the area was a little small so SA gets the edge. I loved getting Cheetah's and just aimlessly blasting through the countryside and the desert. All the characters in both were brilliant.

I couldn't care less about minor improvements to graphics - GTA IV is at the bottom of the pile. Serious let down.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 8,493 ✭✭✭DazMarz

Vice City was the best. It had it all, just enough stuff to keep you interested, but not overdoing it. Great storyline, great characters, great setting... Great game!

Nothing beats it, strolling down Ocean Beach at sunset, in the Don Johnson Special suit with the rolled up sleeves, your MP5 at your side, the wail of the approaching SWAT van, the buzz of the police chopper, the blood of your last victim leaving a trail behind you... Ah yes, perfection!!!

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 22,048 ✭✭✭✭Snowie

The majority of them have strengths and weekness's.
having played them all I think there all pretty awesome...
I havent played lost and the dammed or ballad of gay tony.

Gta4 People go is that it really dissapointing But to be honest i think a lot of people serously shouldnt undereastamte the two brothers behinde the games Dan and Sam Houser.
Those two are in the top 100 most influatiol men of 2009 according to times magzine. The games its self knocked 50,000,000 In the day of its realease.
What ya think there just well we'll leave it at that Gta4 was a platform, where insted of just creating one game then lets move on I think there thinking differentlythere useing one base platform in liberty city I like the idea there going with and its going to just get better me knows.

like in the ballad of gay tony we could get to kill of niko or decide weather he dies, Little Jacob has ahole past and preasent to explore i would never ever underestemate RockStar well actually i would just to be suprised! :D

plus 1 for Vice City for the win.

If IV had a good soundtrack i'd pick it, but it's fairly rubbish. I'd have to go with Vice City, great dialogue, characters and music.
3 deserves a mention for having the most use of the drug "spank", hard to not laugh when the mobsters were taking seriously about spank. Also, that level with spanked up suicide bombers was possibly the funniest level ever!

Don't think there'd be much point in a poll. It'd be a landslip. VC was way out there as the best. Fabulous at the time, with great gameplay and fantastic story. But the music was the dogs.
