20 and going to Vegas?

Hey I'm 20 years old and thinking of going to Las Vegas with my friends in a matter of hours! Theres a place for me in the car so I've all night to decide. I'd like to go but I'd prefer to go next year when I'm 21 and can gamble and drink! If I walk into the casino with my over 21 friends will they card us all? Can I get in anyway? I'd probably spend most of my time at the spa and swimming pool if I definately can't get in. Thanks for reading!!

They can be quite strict, i remember we stayed at a hotel and when we were checking in the told my mate who was 20 at the time to stand further away from the slots, he had no intention of playing them.

To be honest i would wait till next year.

    Yep, I agree 100%.

I've been going to America on my hols for years and I would get asked for ID even when I was in my late 20's & early 30's.

If you were to have some sort of id you might be ok, it worked for me last year. They do id at the tables if they think your under age! And they asked a mate for id just while he was walking through the floor.

But once your on the tables its free booze from there on in!

dont forget about the new regulations that came in earlier this year about travel to the US, you have to apply at least 72 hours in advance for the visa waiver scheme, I think they are quite strict about it so you might not just be able to head off on 24hours notice ...

The OP said "there is space in the car" so I'm guessing (s)he is already in America.

Id also imagine hes in America given that he posted at 7.30am Irish time & described having all night to think about it. West coast is 8 hours behind us. Personally Id say wait. Theres a whole lot of fun you'l be missing out on. Go next year when you can experience everything.

You'll get away with it in some places and not in others. Had friends close to 30 turned away because they had no ID. I'd probably just go anyway. Vegas is unbelievable!

They have to ID everyone regardless of how old you look / appear to be / or obviously are... some mad crap to do with "Age descrimination" if they don't.

As per the others above, you are much better waiting for a year if yer going to a place of drunken debaurchary and gambling. Otherwise, what ya gonna do? Visit Hoover dam?

    - Drav!

    Edit:
Dam.. thought this was in AH... how is this a personal issue thing? Feel like yer mates are going to leave behind or rushing ahead carelessly towards yourself because you may pose an issue being younger?

    then...

we'll all go to vegas next year for your 21st!!

Depends on how far from vegas you are. If its only a few hours drive then yes go. if you dont get in places you will still have a good time.

If however its a cross country trip then id say leave it till next year.

I went when i was 23, and i never get ID'd in ireland but was constantly ID'd in vegas.

I love pulling out the irish driving licence at a vegas blackjack table and unfolding it in all its pink glory. Everyone is just like, WTF

As for ID, yes you will get ID'd everywhere.

Yeah I agree with the above.

Also, if you don't get in places, you don't want your friends to miss out coz they don't want to leave you alone!

Ok I'm in San Fran so it's an 8hour road trip! I'm going! Anything could happen between now and the next time I go! Doing everything else and just seeing the slots and tables (even for 1 minute) is atmosphere enough! Wouldn't gamble a fortune anyway!!!!

I'd go if I were you, just for the craic. Road trips are fun, full stop. As far as ID goes, at the top-end places yeah you'll get IDd; however, there's loads of casinos etc just a bit off the strip that won't bother their arse. Go for a walk through the famous places just to see them, if you really want to gamble walk a block east or west of the strip.

im 22 and traveled right across America in an RV over winter there and got asked for ID everywhere, but now that you mention it i was never asked for ID in vegas for gambling. never even crossed my mind of being asked. i dont think i was ID'd for drink too in many places.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 81,220 ✭✭✭✭biko

Go for the road trip. The trip out is usually mighty craic, unfortunately the trip home is usually a pain though.

Your right too man. Worst they can do is say no. You don't have to be 21 to get into casino's so you can always just watch the rest of them, get your matest to go to the bar etc.

Try some of the cheaper type casino's like O'Sheas and Bill's might be easier. Wish I was back there!!!!!!!!!

    Don't go. No point.

Adrian "Jackpot" Lewis (the darts player) was playing the slots when he was 19, he won 75,000. They would not pay him as he was underage!

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Adrian_Lewis

Thats why they call hime "Jackpot".

No point if there's a possibility of not being able to do anything!!!

My sister was 20 when she was there with us and she, scanned her passport and altered the date of brith to say she was 21 on photoshop and then printed it out and had no probs with the photocopy as ID

Go for it, off the strip you probably won't get ID'd for gambling.

And tbh I don't remember getting ID'd when I was there for drink I was only 23 and am small so don't look old.

Plus, while gambling is a big thing in Vegas there is a lot more to do also even just for the roadtrip and to see it its amazing. Some of the show are pretty good also, shopping is meant to be good too.

Nothing to stop you going again either.

I was there when I was about 12 and again when I was about 16. So much to do there underage. You can still walk around the casinos. Obviously it would be so much fun to be 21 but it is defo worth the trip if you have the opportunity. I'd go just to do The Big Shot again at the top of The Stratosphere! Enjoy!
