Stripped Cleat Nut on Sidi shoes

    Hi guys,
I have a pair of Sidi Ergo 1 shoes in great shape but have stripped some of the outer threads of one of the cleat nuts.
It thought it would be an easy job to replace the nut but when I look inside the shoe and take the insole out, the base of the shoe is glued to the sole.
Does anyone have any suggestions on a way to replace the nut without destroying the shoe or if thats not possible then some way to make the shoe useable.

Do you think I should force the bolt in all the way which would either strip the rest of the good threads or else let the bolt get back on the right threads and at least have the grip from the remaining good threads?

It'd be an awful waste to lose an othehrwise perfect pair of shoes over such a tiny problem.

    Thanks

Try using a dremel on the screw head?

Actually, I may have misunderstood your problem.

    Sorry, I should clarify.

I can screw the bolt in about halfway on the 'wrong' (stripped) thread, if you get me. Then it gets really tight when it gets to the good threads.
I think that if I continue screwing at this point and force it in, it will continue on the wrong (and loose) threads and strip all the remaining good threads. Leaving me with a completely stripped nut.

Maybe this isnt as a big a problem as I think it is. Does anyone else have experience of attaching cleats when one of the nuts is stripped? Maybe I could use thread tape around the bolt so that it gets a tight grip on the stripped threads.

Not familiar with the shoes, but if you can screw the cleat bolt in from inside the shoe, this will rethread the damaed threads. If you try to screw the bolt into the shoe from the outside, you'll simply damage the threads even more. Best of Luck.

What you need is plastic metal and a tap, the plastic metal will fill the threads and you'll use the tap to reform a new thread.

    Thanks guys.

Unfortunately there is no way to access the nut from inside the shoe so cant try to rethread it that way.

That plastic metal sounds like just the job. I'll give that a go. Presumably it wont be as strong as the original threads but with the two other bolts working fine it shouldn't be a problem.

    Thanks again.
