    Hi all -

Just wondering how you guys deal with the infamous road rash ...
I never really cared about scars, but ... right now I have a nice uniform red 3cm sq cm patch on my left forearm that will more than likely be matching the right arms' pink marks ... I am all about matching colours to a certain extent ... but ... I think I have enough 'road cred' for now.

    Any advice?

    Thx

if it's still weeping use one of the dry-sprays like savlon or something, to absorb the moisture. If it's scabbed over then use sudocream, that stuff is magic

you were in another crash? or the right arm's marks are old?

They're old ones - I have scars on my right knee and elbow from last winter's 2 x falls #1 also included broken thumb and #2 included a broken wrist.

But really this is nothing I am still new to proper crashes.

Euroness also has a scale for proper crashes. One can't compete with the like of Blorg for example.

If you can you are probably best just leaving it out and exposed to the air, that is what I tend to do anyway.

One time my competitive streak i think will happily stay quiet! :p

i'd leave it exposed to the air as blorg suggests, usually works pretty well for me, maybe some cream to keep it moisturised but no bandages unless you need them...

Rule 56. In the event of a crash, no matter how badly the Euro cyclist has injured himself, he should proceed to mummify himself with fishnet gauze. The act of gauzing oneself is looked upon with respect by other Euro cyclists because it is a statement of commitment and strength of character to continue racing when injured. White Gauze is the norm, but world cup striped gauze and or national colors may be worn on select occasions depending on the rider.

I'm a big believer in Aloe Vera,

I have one product and it is miracle stuff, I'll post up the brand name after lunch. I use it for everything from chamois cream to after sun. If its damaged skin you got, this stuff is as good as a liquid skin graft from the bum of an angel.... My gf had really bad burn on her foot, she couldn't walk and her foot was swollen, applied this @ 6pm next morning swelling down, no scaring and back walking.

Remember if buying such gels ingredients are listed by content therefore make sure Aloe is first on the list, also the shorter the list the better, good Aloe gels are pretty much 100% Aloe.

I find this stuff pretty good and I've had some serious scarring to recover from (playing rugby on dry Swiss ground in July is painful). Edit: I put it on the new skin after the scar is gone, it helps it toughen up.

try bio-oil, you can get it in most chemists, works great on scars, friend had 2o stitches on his nose from a drunken backflip that went wrong. this worked wonders on his scar.

I had a fair few good road rashes this year. I kept them covered in Vaseline as much as I could. Applied 3/4 times a day. Healed up alot faster, washed off much quicker than left to dry and scab over.

    +1 on the bio oil
Vit. E capsules are good too, burst one and rub it on the skin once the rash is gone.

Yeah I heard vitamin E is good too. Can't verify it though.

    Vitamin E oil is good.
Twas recommended to me the last time I landed on my face.
It didn't fix the broken teeth but it helped reduce the scarring.:o

I used this savlon stuff a while back on a head/face injury, to try and get it to heal in days for a special event. It worked really well, never got bad scabs and redness went down very quickly. I didn't use it on my knees or elbows and 3 weeks later then were still pretty rough looking.

Urine. It's perfect. Make sure not to be urinating for a second or two before passing one's wound under it though, don't want to catch that first bit o' bacteria.

What if you cut your face? Are you meant to pull over and ask whoever is cycling with you to "lubricate" your face?

Actually, don't answer that, I don't want to know!

Manuca Honey is great for the job.

Urine, while typically sterile, isn't a great steriliser unless you are in a desperate situation. As urine is full of nutrients, you can't leave the wound undressed.

Might be a good idea to get some fucidic acid (Fucidin) or silver sulfadiazine (Flammazine) and stick it on liberally to the area at least until it's scabbed.

Think you'll need a prescription though, not 100%.

I was being facetious, in relation to this thread.
