It was also very cinical. FWD with crap interiors and dated looks. And the real shame is it was based on a great car ( last Mondeo ). Go figure!!!

I thought they looked alright. Bad interior tho.
2.0 Diesel from peugeot and the 2.2 from ford AFAIK.

Good riddance, hopefully they'll remember that they used to make some of the best executive saloons in the world and replace it with something more 'Jag-like'...

I like the look of them, basically a scaled down XJ. not of a fan of diesels or FWD in a jag though.

Is there any replacement model on the cards?

The 08 and 09 spec versions are incredible value for money and put the likes of A4, 3 Series and C Class to shame. Some list of equipment as standard:

    http://www.jaguar.ie/ie/en/x-type_new/models_pricing/models.htm

Its actually the only car in that segment showing a sales increase vs same period last year.

2.0 diesel is available for Passat money. €29400!

Ah, i think your being a bit harsh to it in fairness! When it was launched, it reminded me of a baby XJ, which is no bad thing. It's obviously dated quite a bit now, but it wasn't a bad car, just not a good one either.

I always quite liked the looks, but I'm glad it's going. Good riddance to a fake. A failed fake at that. That never was a Jaguar and shame on the people that made it look like one. In doing so, they disgraced the Jaguar brand, all that it stood for and all its history :(

Especially when there was already a perfectly fine 'fake Jag' on the market quite some time earlier... and you've one for sale in your sig!

it very well may be, but you can get a lot of car for 30k these days, a tarted up old shape Mondeo* wouldn't get my 30k, nor would a Passat.

(* I quite like the X type, but lets be honest here :) )

Excuse me, a mere Jag? Our Rover 75 looks like a Rolls Royce

In my opinion the last real Jaguar was the XJ40 of the 1980's the last car Sir William had any design input to. The company actually managed to keep the styling reasonably good afterwards. The latter bloated xj6 x350 Began to signal the design moving away from the low slung sleek Jaguar look. The x type was a much needed car to keep the company going without it Jaguar would probably have sunk into posterity. The newer S Type is actually built on the Ford Galaxy floorpan so is it a real Jaguar . I always wanted to like this car but I just couldn't.

Ford pumped a lot of money into the Jaguar brand and turned the whole thing around qaulity began to improve steadily. They introduced the retro S type and the X type to fill a void in the vehicle line up. The other prestige brands did the same thing. Front wheel drive and diesels although imo polluted the brand at the same time saved it. I hope the people at the Halewood plant who are losing their jobs have success in finding remployment.

It could be said the excellent XK8 is a real Jaguar as it based on the old XJS floorpan and uses a Jaguar brand new design engine, only their fourth ever in house engine I think. Ford could have thrown an off the shelf v8 in there.

Hopefully we won't be saying Tata to Jaguar for a while yet. I have a funny feeling the new xj6 will not find favour with the old guard time will tell. For my opinion I just love those old xj6 barges of the mid 90's cheap as chips and look excellent in full flight.

I liked the X-Type, they are still good value second hand and a breath of fresh air rather than the default choice between the thousands of 3 Series and A4s on our roads. Granted they are a bit long in the tooth and not the best in class but at least they were a bit more unique mixed among the usual German junior executives in the company car park.

It is quite funny how some people seem to discard it straight off because of the fwd chassis but yet have no problem accepting a fwd Audi. I just wonder if Jaguar were a German brand would people be more forgiving and would the X-Type have been more of a sales success?

One of the nicest interiors of any car I have been in of that era. Styling is British, just as Audi etc are German.

It was initially available in just 4WD, with FWD following later (also a bit like Audi).

Maybe to put in perspective, if I bought a Mondeo and an X type pulled up beside me, I would just think damn ! I bought the wrong car. Those English boys I dunno' how they do it but they can just capture a sense of heritage in a car.

    What:confused:

I think it was silly decision to kill it right now. It cost them nothing to produce and was still bought in reasonable numbers. They also need representation in this end of the market, as this segment is where most of the premium car manufacturers sell most of their cars.

Ford I think in reality had always planned to kill the x type in 2009. It was always conceived that Jaguar competing with mass volume producers like BMW and Mercedes was ill advised. They had always planned a return to low volume sporting saloons and coupes which is what Jaguar did best. They had always lined up their other aquisition to take on the germans in the mass market, Volvo. However what Tata will bring to this who Knows.

The S Type also shared floorpans with the Lincoln LS and the new Thunderbird too. It was almost used in the new Mustang but proved too expensive. The XF uses the S type floorpan, though with a lot of modifications. However the XF has XK8 suspension components and follows in the footsteps of Jaguar sporting saloons.
