Waterford 3-21 Tipp 2-14 Final Score

    Dublin 1-14 KK 2-16 L

    Any score from Clare/Limerick?

4 Munster Finals for Waterford this year, we badly needed some sort of progress at underage level. Maurice Shanahan had a stormer tonight and must start the Senior QF surely

Just outta the limerick/clare match.. Clare definetly played the better hurling and Id say they'll win munster this year. Although I will admit, one point was actually wide but called a score for clare in the first couple of minutes (not like it could make a difference anyways:P)

Anyone have info on the respective Clare and Waterford teams? I'd imagine Clare have Munster to lose.

Dubs were decent tonight, some good competitive hurlers.

    Waterford team was

    Adrian power
    Jerome maher
    Shane fives
    Noel connors
    Philip mahony
    Steven daniels
    Dave o sullivan
    John gorman
    Sean o hare
    Tommy connors
    Paul murray
    Maurice shanahan
    Brian o sullivan
    Shane casey
    Thomas ryan

Noel Connors is number 4 for the seniors also. Adrian Power in goal is also on the senior panel and a member of the WIT fitzgibbon cup team. Jerome Maher and Shane Fives are on the senior panel as are Thomas Ryan and Shane Casey. Philip Mahoney played on the minor team last Sunday that beat Tipp. Maurice Shanahan is Dan's brother, came on last Sunday in the senior final, and apparently had an absolute stormer tonight, he must be fancied to start the senior QF now. Also Shane Walsh from the senior panel came on after 20 mins

Thanks Kev. I thought it was illegal to play Minor players at Under-21 at inter-county?

Just come from the Clare-Limerick game and Clare were well worth the 15 point margin of victory. Clare was just better all over, wanted it more and made Limerick look pedestrian in comparison. All the way from Donal Tuohy in goal (savage keeper!!) to Morey and Ryan in the full line, they were first to every ball and played a lovely brand of hurling. There's life in the Banner yet! As for Limerick, this is as bad as it gets, a truly gutless, inept performance, no understanding between players and little or no running off the ball. It was still a relatively close game at half time but once Clare got a raft of scores just after half time there was no way back for Limerick, who's lack of pace and intensity at times seem to suggest they were treating the game like some sort of pre-season challenge match.

Not long back from Dublin V Kilkenny.Final score was KK 2-20 Dublin 1-19.

We lost this match in defense with our number 2 having a nightmare.Management were terrible not to take him off.

I'm not one to criticise referees on here but Tony Carroll (Offaly) was dreadful. He was over picky with regards to technical details yet he let some illegal tackles take place which cost Dublin a few points. There was an incident at the terrace side at the sideline where a Dublin hurler passed the ball forward only to be greeted by a cynical frontal charge into the chest. The referee and linesman did sweet F.A about it.Also a Kilkenny player threw his hurl down and didn't get booked. The referee was also guilty of giving Kilkenny some soft frees that Dublin would not have got.

Kilkenny deserved their win though and it was a smashing game.Could have been closer if Dublin took their frees.

Was at the Dubs Game. The full back line had a terrible time especially Quilty and Kelly. Rory O'Carroll is one for the future and I hope he sticks with the hurling. Rush caught some nice ball and handed off a few passes but his striking really isn't up to standard. Once again Treacy shone, another for the future. Lambert was good and he should have started against KK in the senior match. Barry O'Rourke wasn't bad in the corner either when he got the ball.

Dublin missed about 6 frees I think in the end. Simple thing which shouldn't happen. But KK never looked like losing and they had a few fine hurlers.

This is absolutely brilliant stuff for Waterford. We've never had the best underage teams in the world, and since we made that breakthrough in 98 there's always been one or two players coming through every year to keep the clock ticking. But now we're finally reaping the rewards for the huge growth in hurling in the county in these 11 years.

Those players that played in the minors on Saturday or the U21s tonight, they were all kids back in 98 when we finally rejoined the top hurling counties in the country, and they've all grown up watching and idolising players like Ken McGrath, Paul Flynn and Tony Browne. And while these players may not win All-Irelands, they can be so proud for laying the foundations of hurling in the county for years to come.

I have to say I couldn't be happier than seeing a Clare Waterford Munster final. Was very pleased with our own match, Limerick were weak but it was the first time I watched a Clare team play whose dominant players were the full forward line. A great win for us, and congratulations to Waterford too. It's great to have a positive to take from a year of Clare hurling.

Dublin in my opinion lost the game in the forwards and on Frees. Kilkenny scored easily, some fantastic points. They had 2 bad wides but were clinical with their free taking apart from one. Dublin missed 7 scorable frees. When you miss what Dublin missed tonight you cant expect to win at this level.

However to be fair Dublin worked hard and some of their play was excellent and they got a few very good points.

The ref made a mess of that tackle on the sideline ok. It was a Dublin free but they conjured up a line ball. Also felt Kilkenny a few times in the first half used a third man to block Dublin player tackling the player with the ball. They know how to win and deserved their win but Id say Dublin are kicking themselves.

Finally it was great to see so many people out supporting Dublin Hurling that has to be good for the future of the game in Dublin.

Well considering that Waterford beat Tipp, who were the reigning Munster champs, quite comfortably, i think a few Déise men on here would have something to say about that.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 61 ✭✭Hacks

When the Tipp seniors are doing well the 21's are always crap because the lads on the senior panel dont give a $hit about u21 !!! No disrespect to Waterford coz they did win well but most of the Tipp seniors were probably on the beer Sunday night and all day Monday

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,908 ✭✭✭Daysha

Haha, only 15 posts in and we already have alcohol excuses coming out of the Tipp camp and a Cork man assuming a Clare victory in a Munster final! Classic :D

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 61 ✭✭Hacks

Actually i wasn't at the game tonight nor do i wish to put forward any excuses. I'm just saying that they usually go on the beer after big games and dont take the U21 seriously which is something you wouldn't see in a county like Kilkenny. Back to a point someone made earlier about minors not playing u21, is there really a ban on that ?? Coz i cant remember any lately from Tipp playing both in the one year and the likes of Noel McGrath last year definately would have been good enough

As fas as I know it only applies to the lads on minor teams who are still <16. I seem to remember the club having a problem like that last year where some but not all minors were allowed play U21. I assume the same applies to inter county

How the hell could anyone make Clare favourites for Munster. They have NEVER won the Munster u21 final. Should be a good game on Sat week.
Up the Banner. Mike Mac don't let the door hit you on your way out.

ah but you see rules must be applied on a consistent basis across the board. And that was certainly not the case in cusack park last year.

Agreed and it was a redicilous situation in Ennis last year nad i say that as a Tipp man, where was the umpire from again grenache???

I suppose but I can't exactly remember but didn't the Clare keeper get warned about this breach of the rules previous to that action? Correct me if I'm wrong! How was the umpire supposed to know that Clare were going to get a 21 yard free straight from the puck-out? I feel it was the ref's fault for letting it develop so long without spotting the raised hand of the umpire. Then again I'm sure that debate was already had on boards. ;)

The problem there is that the Tipp keeper also was caught doing it - but by the tv cameras and crucially not the umpires or referee. So the Tipp keeper can do it but the Clare keeper cant? Like i said, its all about applying the rules consistently, if you penalise one team you must do likewise to the other.

Anyone know about the venue !!

Heard last week it was going to be Dungarvan...Doesn't seem like any bit of logic used there

but Munster GAA website hasn't got it listed

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 143 ✭✭Benhonan

Completely uncorraborated rumour is that someone from Clare CB is going for vice chairman of the Munster Council next year and needs Waterford votes. So yeah it's on in Dungarvan.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,949 ✭✭✭deisedude

I've heard Dungarvan is to be inspected tonight to see is it safe for the match. If its there it will be all ticket as you will only fit about 7000-7500 in there

I agree, Dungarven is stupid..At least half the clare fans that were there last week will not be able to travel..Wud have to leave work at 3pm to get down there..Thurles wud have been perfect or even gaelic grounds!Even Nenagh have a decent set up!

I thought it was fixed for Thurles ??? Would be very surprised if it was in Dungarvan

All the talk on other websites seem to say it will be in Dungarvan. I heard also from someone involved high up in Waterford GAA that the game will be played there if it passed health and safety inspections
