air con smell

    smell of rotten eggs when i switch air con on.only when i put a/c on. any ideas.car is 2002 e class

    Most likely the pollen filter needs to be replaced, it's usually located behind the glovebox in cars, costs about €30, should be replaced every 2 years but some dealers never bother changing it until it starts to smell.

    If its not behind the glove box, there's another filter behind the

    battery under the bonnet in some merc's, its covered by a simple latch

    release panel.

    I used this product for the same problem, got it on www.micksgarage.ie, but i'd say you would get it in some place like Halfords as well

    I believe the high king is correct. The smell is caused by bacteria. Forte do the best version of this in my experience, available from Peugeot dealers only afaik.

    This is usually caused from lack of use which allows bacteria to build up behind the vents.

    It is advisable to switch your air con on at least once a week to prevent bacteria building up, it also prevents a leak in the air con system as this works as a lubricant to protect the seals.
