    Hi all,

I'm looking a 00-02 car as cheap as possible.
I test drove a 02 megane yesterday, with FSH by Renault.
I'm tempted by it, but noticed the gearstick moving back slightly in my hand when I accelerated hard.
Does anyone know if this is a bad sign?
I've also heard back reports about this model, but I guess there can be bad reports about any car.
I heard avoid European cars, go Japaneese ..etc

    Cheers,
    MM

Depends on how much it moves. My almera gearstick moves lower when I accelerate (sp?). When I got my clutch replaced, the guy said that one of the gearbox brackets was gone and I would have to go directly to Nissan to get it fixed. Would cost around €100. Been like that for 2 years now! My car is only 3 years old aswell!

In a lot of gearboxes there are linkages with bushings that wear out. These bushings on the gear linkages could be worn, but even so, should be a small fix.
Used to happen to a Peugeot I had. Never caused a problem though.
    P.S.
they all move some bit -

My Clio gearstick moves back a bit under acceleration since new (2000) It's never been an issue.

On the missus last Scenic a rubber bushing on a gearbox mount went and it was obviously different to the Clio when driving. Thats a few years ago but it wasnt expensive.

Some cars do it more than others, I once drove a brand new Volvo S40 that was terrible for it. If I were you i'd drive another example of the same car just to see if the degree of movement is typical.
