Question about Garda vetting addresses

    Hi,

Well to start i want to work in healthcare, and i am looking for part time work right now to get some experience before i apply to college next year.

My problem is with garda vetting, i know whole heartedly and truely i have never been in trouble, cautioned, had a court appearance, committed a crime or even had a car issue with the law. I only started to drive last january.

My problem is that i recently got a form for garda vetting and i was filling it out and saw the address section " all addresses from birth to be entered" my heart sank. I enquired as to what would happen if an address i could not remember was not entered or a year was left out and i was told the form would just be sent back. I have not taken the job. stupid reason it may sound but...

My parents are stupid selfish idiots who never considered their kids futures, they were too obsessed with getting one over on each other.
I do not have anything to do with my parents, they have made my start in life so hard and now i am very pissed off their actions could affect my future.

From birth to 15 years i dont know all my addresses and would have no way to get them. i dont want to enter wrong info on the form but i cant guess and i cant just ask parents, i want nothing to do with them.

I know the areas i lived in but not exact year or address, but i also spent some time in care, then mother might have custody so we stayed with her family, then father would have custody so we stayed with his family. its a big mess.

from the age of 9 years old onward i am fine i have all that info. Does anyone know if short addresses when i was a child and infant really matter all that much? I am so stressed out.I feel very cheated by my parents. I have nothing to be afraid of for garda vetting, and my future depends on getting it.

Can someone tell me how strict are the garda vetting unit about addresses provided ? if so is there a way i could access records to find the information i need ?could i contact central records or would my parents have to do that ?

First thing's first is not to worry, many other people have been in the same situation as you, not everyone has all the info they need for the form , and that's to be expected.

If you can write down what addresses you can remember , then that will be ok imo. You can drop into your local Garda station with queries.
Besides, exceptions must be made for adopted children/deceased parents etc.
Not everybody grows up and resides at 123 Fake St before moving out at 18 to work in Healthcare, if you get me.

Fill in what you can and then go to the stn.

Things need to be strict however , the address check is mainly because there is a chance you might have unsupervised access to children in the course of your work.

I would advise you not to worry, FizzlyBubbly. Put down as much as you can remember in terms of addresses but ensure that you down every detail pertaining to relatives, dates of birth and the like and the Garda Vetting Unit will do their thing. If they're not satisfied they'll send the form back.

And that's the worst that can happen. They'll tell you specifically what's missing and you can work from there.

Are most of your address changes within the one area, or were you moving from county to county?

    Hey OP,

Just to add to DubMedic and FG's posts, would any of your relatives know addresses that your parents lived at while you were with them. Unbelieveably some people have address books for years so this could be another source of information for you.

Another idea and I dont know if this would actually work out but you said for a time you were in care. If thats so then a Social Worker wold have worked on your case and would have detailed files relating to your immediate family. These files should also have addresses and more importantly when you lived there. You could try Social Services but again I dont know how successful you would be.

A couple of other options for ye and I wish you the very best of luck

I won't would about it the next time OP, you can do as suggested by the Nog, I'm work in the HSE, vetted for work, same again for prpfessional visits in prisons. I have worked aboard when I was younger, this meant moving from bedsit to bedsit regularly. I have generally put various addressed in "insert country" on the form. So put down what you can that's all you can do. If you contact Social Services you may be able to fill in some of the blanks.

i'm also curious about this vetting procedure. My parents divorced when i was born and i was raised by my grandparents on my mothers side.Grandparents and mother have all passed away and i dont know anyone on my fathers side of the family or their whereabouts.Do i have to track them all down to find out their date of births and addresses or is there an exception in this case.

Do you know what school(s) you attended as you were growing up?.

Schools tend to keep records after you have left afaik.

They would most likely have had your address on record for the purpose of sending notices/school reports home.

With a bit of luck , they might still have it.

The vetting form is looking for the addresses you resided at, not your relations.

I understand now. Thanks DubMedic.I thought they might need address etc for aunts and uncles.

I believe the purpose of vetting is to check that you don't have a criminal record.

If you have all your addresses since the age of 9, then what is the problem?

How likely is it that you were a serial rapist or murderer before the age of 9?!?

Even if you were a bad lad/girl when you were a kid, you would have been dealt with under the Juvenile Programme, and such records shouldn't be taken into account in later adult life.

With most if not all jobs, traffic related convictions dont apply unless the job you are going for will be around driving. Seeing as your conviction was 10 yrs Im fairly sure you have nothing to worry about.
