FF-3.5 for preference, much faster rendering and JS engine.
    Chrome isn't bad
And I've had to use IE on occasion for webapps written by brainwashed MSCEs but otherwise avoid it like the plaque.

I used this for years until about six months ago. It was fine in actual use, but started taking longer and longer to load. When the time it took to turn my laptop on and get a browser window up stretched to something beyond my patience threshold, I switched to Chrome which loads up almost immediately (for me).

Mozilla did an incredibly dumb thing with 3.5 which is responsible for huge increases in startup times of FFX 3.5.

Firefox or chome, use firefox mostly. It's pretty perfect from what I want ot get out of a browser. Only annoying thing is when memory usage builds up and I have to restart it.

Something wrong, nobody uses Internet Explorer , I find that hard to believe.......or they're just not willing to admit it and to post in this poll.

  • Moderators, Science, Health & Environment Moderators Posts: 10,088 Mod ✭✭✭✭marco_polo

Its a bad state of affairs when people won't even admit it anonymously :D

I use IE for Outlook Webmail that is all. I find Opera (Handy inbuild RSS UI) and Chrome to be the fastest at the moment but limited feature wise compared to FF, I do love some of my FF plugins and I want to like it the most, but startup speed is an issue they need to resolve (Without the hack).

Essentially they are all flawed in different ways

What's all this startup time business with FF? Mine opens instantly and it's not like I have a great computer etc.

How long does it take you?

mines boots instanstly, probably because i save all my tabs before i close it? dunno, never had a problem with quick boot

I use opera and IE occasionally, i have no idea if its the best I'm just used to it. There all the same really who cares if one loads a page a fraction of a second quicker than another or what ever other statistic people come up with to proclaim there browser is the best. Use whatever makes you happy ;)

Hmm I take that back, as an experiment I disabled the only two plugins I currently have installed on 3.5 (Firebug and WebDeveloper) and it instant loading. :o (NB - The term 'instant' is relative on this crappy laptop but that is another story :))

Boo at the lack of a chrome option...

Sometimes Chrome doesn't work particularly well with websites (I find that chat and some other features of facebook don't work great on chrome) so I'll use Firefox then, but i do find firefox a bit of a resource hog...

Opera - don't like at all... Don't like the overall UI of the browser...
IE - also don't like, only use it on computers that are not mine where it's the default.
Safari - I actually really like safari on windows, it's an awesome looking browser but it crashes too much for me to use it properly..

(Oh, i use Firefox exclusively on linux, but would prefer to use something else...)

Use firefox, chrome is pretty good too though. Never been a fan of opera mainly just because of the feel of it.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 362 ✭✭Fluffybums

Safari because the MacBook so works and the MS machines get too slow too quickly. I like it, never tried it on a windows platform though.
Also use IE, if the machine isn't in need of an overhaul of is okay. Also started using Chrome on PC and like. Have opera on terminal desktop.

Have always used firefox and never had a problem with it, but have starting to use chrome more recently because of its speed, very impressive

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 937 ✭✭✭Diddy Kong

+1 on the missing all of above option.

Use IE & FF in work and at home IE, FF & Chrome. Each have their good points and each have bad. Didn't vote in the poll as I use more than one.

If you'd like to get around using IE for Outlook Webmail, you should try the Firefox addon "IEtab" - what it essentially does is use iexplorer.exe to render specific tabs if you choose it. It can be set to automatically load certain webpages using IEtab. I set this up for my dad's work outlook webmail and it works great.

I have used all of the browsers in the poll, and have settled for Firefox. Just can't live without AdBlock, and all the other customisability. I really want to love Opera since truth-be-told Firefox is horribly slow to start up on my netbook, but it feels so alien to me...

Am I the only one that finds Chrome really slow? Starts up faster than firefox, but browsing, say boards.ie, firefox is way faster

I read on one of my Technology sites on Google Reader, they've fixed it. A good reason for FF, they fix problems if enough people report problems.

This is what brings me back to FF. Opera is nice, but just can't get used to it. The idea of an email and newsreader in one is brilliant. Chrome is superfast but few add ons, like Safari.

Back to FF for me. I've one toolbar, the address bar combined on it. Weather, time and date, currency conversion and a music player on my status bar.

FF for how you want a browser to look, not how Microsoft, Apple or Google want it.

I 've been using opera since 2001. Wouldn't change it for anything else.
It's fast, customizable and works with few resources.

    Hehe.

As ironic as it is to be touting Firefox as a good browser for an underpowered machine like a netbook, it really is the easiest and most effective to minimize in terms of its UI - all thanks to the addons, once again.

If there was a way to remove the titlebar in Opera, I would be extremely tempted by it again, but right now Firefox is winning the screenspace race, which to me is paramount.

Do you have a link to the addons you are using to get it to look like that?

No, you can put the Menu toolbar into one button and put it on the menu bar or navigation bar. I then just show one toolbar and the tabs move up like the screenshot.

    Sorry, link here:https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/4550

There's a link for FF 3.5 in the comments section.

Do you mean having the tabs and menu/navigation toolbar all in one?

No I mean like in the screenshot posted by baza above. The tab bar is integrated into the title bar like in chrome. That's what I'm trying to replicate.
