SKY Getting Installed Shortly

    Hi All,

I am getting SKY installed on 25th July for the first time. It is a multiroom subscription with a standard box going in the bedroom and a SKY+ box going into the sitting room. Anyway, I just have a couple of questions about the installation.

I've just moved into the house and there is already a satellite dish on the side of the house (from previous owners) it is an old rusted one. I don't have the equipment (ladder mainly) to take it down before the new Sky gets installed.

Do you think this could cause a problem for the installation?

Secondly, as being my first house I am still only in the processing of getting various things for it. I have a tv for the bedroom in place and I am about to order one for the sitting room. I am hoping to have it in place before the installation date but I can't be 100% sure.

If I have no tv ready in time for the sitting room, would this cause a problem for installation? or would it just be a case of me connecting the sky box to the tv (via av cable or whatever) when the tv does arrive.

Thankfully the phone socket in the hall has been extended under the carpet to the sitting room already so no problem with that and I have a phone point in the bedroom(albeit on the opposite wall where the tv is going).

    Thanks for any input.

The installer will need to see a picture in each room to get the system details so u may need to carry the tv to and fro each room if u dont have a second tv by the time u are due for installation.

If the dish in place is old and rusty you should demand a new dish...if he refuses send him packing and look eleswhere for another installer ...best of luck in your new house...

    Thanks for that steveon.

I am assuming that the installer will charge a bit extra to take down the old dish?

Yep, I'll be making sure a nice new shiny one goes up (even if the other one doesn't come down).:D

It only takes 2 second to take down an old dish especially if the new dish is going in the same location...so i wouldnt expect any1 to pay me anything for doing this...

I moved into a new house 2 months ago and the installers were briliant. Sierra was the contracting company and these two guys were all done in about 35 mins. This was new dish, cabling, tuning and full set up. (They even tuned in the non-sky channels for me). The first thing they asked when they arrived was did I need an old dish removed. :)

Make sure you or your partner are there when they do the install so you get it the way you want it

A new dish is included for all new customers so the engineer will see that its rusty and needs replacing to save them coming back out to fix it when it does go kaput! there wont be any charge for this im positive.

As for the Tv...engineer needs the screen to see what hes doing when making the callback on the box.

Wish you the best of luck with it and hope you enjoy it.

It all depends if your getting multiroom...if your getting multiroom then the answer is yes you will need it connected to a working landline. If not then it doesnt really need to be connected but you could be charged an extra €37.50 for manual enablement or NLL

A double phone adapter works fine as I have one myself and with no disruptions to either phone, modem or sky box

we have something like that for the phone and broadband but if the sky+ multiroom needs to be plugged into the phone line how do we get all 3 wires in at the same time?cos that only has 2 holes for the phone and broadband:(

One's with 3 on it are easily bought...or alternatively you could connect your phone and broadband into a ASDL Filter and have the second one free for you sky.
